This attractive country hotel is set in its own beautiful 34 acre park in the Hertfordshire countryside, yet it is only about 12 miles from central London and can even be reached by London underground trains. The Lodge's history is known as far back as the 15th century, and among its most famous occupants have been Henry Coventry, King Charles II's Secretary of State, and the Duke of Chandos during the 18th century. The Lodge was rebuilt in 1838 as a private residence and it was opened as a hotel in 1922. Its gardens include an arboretum.
