This is one of the many natural wonders of Southern California. Created from local hot springs millions of years ago, this impressive rock looms above the valley below, creating an eagle-shaped shadow everyday around noon. Before the rock was discovered by Portola in 1770, the caves at the base of it were inhabited by Native Americans. 100 years later the caves were used by desperadoes, including the infamous bandit Vasquez, who used the rock formations to store their loot.
