World War II fortification |
3601 South Gaffey Street Los Angeles, CA 90731 +1 310 548 2631 http://www.ftmac.org/ |
From 1916 through the end of World War II this was the primary defense fortification on the west coast of the United States. Largely intact minus the huge guns that were once pointed towards the Pacific, the walls here are 16-30 feet thick, and the guns could fire at targets up to 14 miles away. The museum features exhibits and memorabilia of the fort and other harbor defenses, focusing on the time period from the end of WWI to the end of WWII. Review © 2009, Wcities |
