St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Byzantine structure from 1952
1324 South Normandie Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90006

Built in traditional Baroque style, this church features unassuming exteriors but flamboyant interiors. It also contains an impressive array of murals, chandeliers and panels depicting the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Other features worth particular note are the Epitaphios, an exquisitely carved baldachino and the Bishop's throne. The nave seats 850, and has interestingly been stripped of the columns which usually adorn similar European churches. It also hosts LA Greek Fest.
