Basque food in a traditional neighbourhood |
Calle Cava Baja 11 Centro Madrid, Madrid 28005 +34 91 366 7212 |
A typical Madrid tavern-cum-restaurant that serves excellent grilled meats cooked over a barbecue burning Mediterranean oak wood for an extra-special flavour. The manager is an Argentine, hence the grilled meats. But the chef is a Basque, so you can expect specialities like anchovies A la BilbaĆna (served hot with vinegar and garlic), sea bream, sea bass, anchovy and baby lettuce salad or tuna steaks with spicy Piquillo red peppers. The private dining room (seating 20) downstairs in the basement retains a surprising historical treasure - remains of the old city walls dating from 1085. Review © 2009, Wcities |
