Madrid has a clean, fast and safe metro network. There are 10 lines, organized by number and color. For instance, line 10 is blue, 7 is orange, and line 5 is green. They cross the city in different directions, with the exception of line 6, the grey line, which is circular. The metro has stops at the main train stations (Atocha, Chamartín, Principe Pío) as well. The line that reaches the airport – line 8, the pink line, is now open and leaves from Mar de Cristal station. Tickets cost EUR 0.81 for a single journey and EUR 4 for a ticket of 10 journeys. These rates are applicable to buses as well. These tickets can be bought in estancos (tobacconists), at kiosks or at EMT booths throughout the city. They can also be bought in the stations. The metro runs from 6a to 1.30a, daily. For more information, call +34 91 5525909. Review © 2009, Wcities |
