Abacería de la Villa

Specialists in game & wild mushrooms
Castelló, 83
Madrid, Madrid 28006
Spain
+34 91 578 2605
Try this place for its exciting and imaginative cuisine that uses only the finest fresh ingredients available from the market. The kitchen specializes in game and wild mushroom dishes and prepares some daring, low-fat options as well, like skate cooked in red wine, for example. You'll be treated well in the small, elegantly furnished dining room, and you can choose from a well stocked cellar full of quality wines. If you can't make up your mind what to order, the sampler menu solves the problem.

This elegant restaurant serves mainly dishes heavily influenced by classical French cuisine, along with a few Spanish favourites. It is very popular with business people at lunch time and a bit more intimate in the evenings. House specials are grilled meats and oven-roasted fish. There is a good selection of wines to accompany both meat and fish, and beers as well. In the summer, you can sit on the outdoor terrace. Valet parking is available.

Cacharrería

Eat interesting food in an agreeable atmosphere
Morería, 9
Madrid, Madrid 28005
Spain
+34 91 365 3930
A popular refuge for the hungry intelligentsia during the turbulent political atmosphere of the 1980s, it continues to attract the same sort of people who came here then. It's a welcoming sort of place with a bit of a decadent feel to it. As for the food, it's imaginatively prepared and presented, and the menu features dishes like courgette and prawn pie and tuna steaks cooked with leeks and sparkling wine along with grilled meats and fish. The wine list offers a reduced selection of fine wines. There's a private dining room available and a sampler menu at EUR30.05.

Viejo León

Pate specialists
Calle De Alfonso X 6
Madrid, Madrid 28010
Spain
+34 91 310 2611
This French restaurant has been open for business for over 30 years serving up some wonderful dishes like Wild Mushrooms with Scrambled Eggs, Steak Tartare, Beef Fondue and Spinach and Salmon Pancackes. However, it's most famous for its homemade Pate de Foie Gras. Dominique Garde is the experienced chef in charge of the kitchen. You can choose from an excellent selection of wines. You would have to book ahead, as there are only six tables. Once inside, you'll be surrounded by a delightful interior of wrought-iron screens, flower-print wallpaper, salmon-coloured floor tiles and exposed wood. It's the perfect setting for a romantic evening out.
