An authentic North American barbecue restaurant that opened as far back as 1981 and serves exactly what you might expect: onion rings, BBQ chicken, salads, hamburgers and choice pork ribs. The decor is pure "Honky Tonk", the music is country and you get to watch music videos while you eat. There's another branch in Calle Lagasca, 5 (+34 91 576 6271).

Carreta

Tastes of Argentina & Uruguay
Calle de Barbieri 10
Madrid, Madrid 28004
Spain
+34 91 532 7042
Renowned specialists in grilled red meats from Argentina and Uruguay, this kitchen also prepares a range of its own fresh pastas. The restaurant stays open until very late, haunted by hungry bohemians and night owls. There's live Latin American music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and shows for the kids during Sunday lunch. The waiters dress up like typical Argentinian gauchos (cowboys) to serve in the colonial style dining room.

It's run by friendly native Italians and has a real wood-fired pizza oven, so you can be sure you're food's authentic. The house specialities are Carpaccio and Rabbit Pappardelle and the wine list features some good wines from Tuscany and Piedmont. Foster's Hollywood

Classic Tex-Mex
Magallanes, 1
Madrid, Madrid 28015
Spain
+34 91 448 9165
http://www.fostershollywood.es/
A good choice for a quick Tex-Mex meal. Try the house speciality, BBQ ribs or a hamburger or a spicy Mexican dish. The desserts are good, the music is good and the waiters are friendly. It is part of the oldest American restaurant chain in Madrid, founded by two Spaniards who returned from a visit to the States with the idea of combining their passions for American food and movies. The first restaurant was an immediate success, a dynamic, fun venue with excellent quality fare. The standards have slowly dropped over the years, but it is still a popular place. It now offers Internet access, as well as food and drink.

Hard Rock Café

Rock 'n' Roll music & food from the USA
Paseo de la Castellana, 2
Madrid, Madrid 28046
Spain
+34 91 436 4340
http://www.hardrock.com/locati...
Like all the restaurants in this chain, you'll find it decorated with rock and roll memorabilia - guitars, leather jackets and gold discs. It serves decent American and Tex-Mex food and drinks from two seperate bars. Hamburgers and ribs are the specialities. It's always full of tourists and there's a small stage where live bands perform to spice up the atmosphere. What makes this restaurant different is its wonderful outdoor terrace overlooking Plaza de Colón that's not to be missed in summer. You can buy from the range of attractive merchandizing in the adjacent store, open most of the day.

Taberna de la Daniela

Home-cooking, Madrid-style
General Pardiñas, 21
Madrid, Madrid 28001
Spain
+34 91 575 2329
This is a noisy, lively tavern, which specialises in cocido madrileño (a two-course meal in itself, consisting of soup, chickpeas, vegetables and meat). Its other homemade specials are excellent as well, including the Empanada de Bacalao Con Pasas (cod pasty with raisins), Berberechos (steamed cockles), pork loin, cured cheeses and fresh red bream (Besugo). There's not much space, so book ahead if you want a seat. All the tapas and specials of the day are written up on blackboards placed around the bar, which is normally crowded with locals.

Tony Roma's

American food & country music
Avenida de Concha Espina 1
Centro Comercial La Esquina del Bernabéu
Madrid, Madrid 28036
Spain

http://www.tonyromas.com/files...
This American restaurant chain is one of the most popular in Madrid and specialises in BBQ pork ribs although you can always order from the menu that features hamburgers, enormous salads and authentic desserts. Both the decor and the atmosphere are as American as apple pie. The kitchen will produce a cake and the waiters are happy to sing if anyone in your party has a birthday. There are private dining rooms available.
