Calle del Cristo 23 Majadahonda Madrid, Madrid 28220 Spain +34 91 634 0287 |
Serving some of the best Italian food in the capital, this place will attract you back more than once because it offers more imaginative dishes than its competitors and it changes the menu frequently. From the sensibly short and interesting choice available, you can try carefully prepared specials like black spaghetti in lemon sauce, chanterelle lasagne and delicious fresh salads. The extensive wine list includes various Italian favourites and an outstanding range of grappas. There's not much space, so you have to book well in advance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wood-fired pizzas and good carpaccio |
Apodaca, 20 Madrid, Madrid 28004 Spain +34 91 447 0036 |
It's run by friendly native Italians and has a real wood-fired pizza oven, so you can be sure you're food's authentic. The house specialities are Carpaccio and Rabbit Pappardelle and the wine list features some good wines from Tuscany and Piedmont. The other branch on Calle Argensola is much larger and more elaborately decorated. It remains closed in September. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wood-fired oven and Italian wines |
Calle Cava Baja 19 Madrid, Madrid 28005 Spain +34 91 366 1023 |
You'll find this simple, unpretentious pizzeria in the heart of the old town. It has been in business since the late 1980s and attracts a young clientele for its straightforward offering of pizzas, pastas and salads. It has an excellent range of Italian or Spanish wines to choose from, including varieties from Sardinia (Cannonao), Sicily (Corvo) and the north (Fontana Morella) as well as wines from Rioja (Viña Pomal, Marqués de Murrieta) and Ribera del Duero. The interior is like a rustic 19th-century tavern and the tables are covered with the traditional red checked tablecloths. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant and Modern Meat |
Calle Espronceda, 34 Madrid 28003 Spain +34 91 395 00 37 http://www.restauranteestik.com/ |
"Estik" is, roughly translated, Spanish for "steak." This restaurant is, not surprisingly, a paradise for meat lovers. The menu offers standards like sirloin steak, Entrecote, and "Tartar Estik." For the more adventurous, there are special selections such as gazelle, zebra, and buffalo. They even feature seafood like lobster or tuna. The service is great and the wine list is diverse. The restaurant is divided in two floors; the retro feel and gray scale tones of their decoration give it a charming atmosphere. -Angeles Fernandez Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh pasta in a youthful atmosphere |
San Francisco de Sales 41 Madrid, Madrid 28003 Spain +34 91 553 0043 |
Its modern decor, high ceiling and exposed brickwork might strike you as cold and impersonal at first sight. But that first impression is deceiving. The place is always full of lively young people, the hanging curtains break up the space into cosy areas and the lighting is warm and welcoming at night. The cheap and cheerful Italian wines help to keep the clientele happy as well. Fresh pastas are the speciality and spinach lasagna is the best. If you can't make up your mind, order the Especial Festín, consisting of four types of pasta, including the lasagna. Avocado salad is good and homemade tiramisu is an ideal dessert. The food is great and the prices are low. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The fact that you'll most likely be dining beside famous personalities from Madrid's artistic scene is a sign of good quality, as they're a discerning bunch when it comes to food. Più di Prima is a place for romantic evenings and gastronomic excellence. Delicate Italian dishes with strong hints of Espana feature on the menu. Risotto, venison, beef ravioli, and mouth-watering primos and secondos can be relished, though it's best to try what the staff recommends. A decent list of reds and whites is also available. Don't stroll in without prior intimation, as the restaurant insists on a reservation. Review © 2007, Wcities |
