Mediterranean-Provençal cuisine |
Calle Henri Dunant, 23 Madrid, Madrid 28036 Spain +34 91 359 1842 |
Andrés Madrigal is the highly respected chef that runs this kitchen. The food critics rave about his unique versions of standard Mediterranean dishes that require the freshest ingredients in season. His specialities are fish and fresh vegetables in general, and cod with tripe and wild mushrooms in particular. The sampler menu makes the decisions for you and costs EUR29 per person. The two dining spaces are decorated in warm and welcoming colours with minimal decor, just a few paintings and the odd mirror. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good Andalusian fare |
Ponzano, 39-41 Madrid, Madrid 28003 Spain +34 91 399 2150 http://www.alboran-rest.com |
House specials include Salt-Baked Fish, Steamed Shellfish, paellas, tasty stews and fried Mediterranean fish. There's meat on the menu as well. It's a high-quality Andalusian restaurant with an elegant dining room offering first class service. The interior is authentically southern without being kitsch or tacky. The wine list is adequate but not exceptional, although it does feature some good cava (sparkling wine). The restaurant has its own car park and valet parking. Contemporary Mediterranean cuisine |
Calle de Moreto 7 Madrid, Madrid 28014 Spain +34 (0)91 420 0613 |
Another of star chef Andrés Madrigal's elegant creations, you're sure to have a memorable meal here. His contemporary versions of classic Mediterranean cuisine are simply excellent. The emphasis is on fresh fish, wild game and seasonal vegetables. Goose Liver Salad is a speciality starter and the Strawberry and Mint Sorbet is the perfect dessert. As you would expect, the wine list is extensive and the sampler menu offers a taste of the best at a reasonable price. You'll find it on a quiet street in one of Madrid's most upmarket districts, close to Hotel Palace and Retiro Park. Valet parking. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Indulge |
Calle de la Libertad 21 Madrid, Madrid 28004 Spain +33 (0)91 523 3905 |
If you've been to the Catalan outlet of the La Finca de Susana group, then you know what to expect when you're heading here. The only difference you'll find is that Bazaar is more spacious and brighter. The interiors are done up in hues of white and cream. The ambience is casual and the wait staff, highly efficient and amicable. The menu offers a combination of Mediterranean and Pan Asian delicacies. A word of caution-the desserts can get a bit too rich and sinfully indulgent. The Chocolatissimo is highly recommended. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Calle Del Barquillo 44 Madrid 28004 Spain +34 91 3104005 |
The versatile premises are conducive to have breakfast, enjoy an appetizer, or to simply enjoy a glass of wine. The decoration calls for attention because of the combination of antiquities: collections of clocks, Bohemian crystal lamps and marble floors. The restaurant has different themes and many people frequent it. The food is Mediterranean, with specialties like Ostrich medallions, carpaccio, rice and salad of avocados, mango and fresh cheese. Other dishes that you can try are Ox Carpaccio and fish or sirloin with compote of apple and garlic. They have good desserts, like Apple Cake or sherbets. The wine list, nevertheless, is a tad limited. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Calle del Prado 15 Madrid, Madrid 28014 Spain +34 91 429 2838 |
A stylish French restaurant that serves Mediterranean and Asian cuisines. Some of the Japanese dishes are especially good. It's a nice place to come just for a drink and a snack before a meal and if you come in mid-afternoon you'll find it transformed into a tearoom. The house specialities are duck and rice dishes. Try something exotic from the menu, like goose's neck stuffed with foie, baby squid salad with miso dressing or tuna, salmon and sea bass Aokoso. Chic and classy |
Calle de la Libertad 3 Madrid, Madrid 28004 Spain +34 91 532 8377 http://www.elarmariorestaurant... |
This contemporary restaurant on Libertad 3 is an addition to the restaurants at Chueca district. Step into black and white interiors, accentuated with geometric designs. The menu mainly consists of Mediterranean delights, but there is also the regular hamburger for those who want to drop in for a quick bite. The Hamburger of Sole with Shellfish Sauce is highly recommended by patrons. Try the Ensalada de Jamón de Pato con Vinagreta de Foie for starters and graduate to Carpaccio de Ternera con Mousse de Puerro y Queso Parmesano for the main course. The all-time favorite Tiramisú al Amaretto is the perfect way to end your meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Proud winner of a Michelin star, this kitchen creates dishes that combine classic Mediterranean standards with nouvelle cuisine flourishes. A different wine for every course |
Paseo de la Castellana, 123 Madrid, Madrid 28046 Spain +34 91 556 4033 |
One of the latest trendy restaurants to open in the city, offering a mixture of Basque and Mediterranean cuisine in tasteful, modern surroundings. Its gimmick is to offer a different red or white wine for each course. The extensive menu features interesting dishes like Foie Gras Cannelloni with Poached Eggs, Salmon in Filo Pastry with Duck's Liver, Grilled Sea Bass, a Beef Platter with Glazed Baby Onions, Hake Cheeks (Kokotxas) and Roast Lamb in Gravy. You can buy bottles from the wine list to take away, but you'll find that everything here is rather expensive. Review © 2007, Wcities |

More Than Just a Restaurant |
C/ Nuncio 19 Madrid 28005 Spain +34 91 366 25 91 http://www.enerestaurante.com/ |
Ene is a restaurant, but also a nice place to meet your friends while taking a good cocktail and, something rather new in Spain, it's a place where you can have brunch on Sundays, lying on a tatami and surrounded by live music thanks to their great DJs. This place is divided in two floors: the first one includes the bar and the second one the restaurant, both decorated in a minimalist, Japanese way. From tapas to a select "a la cart" dishes, their cuisine is a mixture of Mediterranean, Japanese, American and Catalonian influences, and the result is always incredible. -Angeles Fernández Review © 2007, Wcities |

Romantic café & restaurant |
Paseo de Recoletos, 31 Madrid 28001 Spain +34 91 3082347 |
Located in a charming corner of Paseo de Recoletos, one of Madrid's smartest neighborhoods, this romantic café with its glass dome and early-20th century modernist interior decor is a work of art in its own right. There is extra seating on the terrace outside in summer. You can come for morning coffee, or later, for a full meal at lunch or dinner. The menu changes according to the season and only the freshest ingredients are used. A typical menu of the day would offer: Lobster and Fettuccini Salad to start, followed by Hake stuffed with Clams and Shrimp or Veal Meatballs, and Chocolate Cake with Coffee Sauce for dessert. Elegant and Modern Meat |
Calle Espronceda, 34 Madrid 28003 Spain +34 91 395 00 37 http://www.restauranteestik.com/ |
"Estik" is, roughly translated, Spanish for "steak." This restaurant is, not surprisingly, a paradise for meat lovers. The menu offers standards like sirloin steak, Entrecote, and "Tartar Estik." For the more adventurous, there are special selections such as gazelle, zebra, and buffalo. They even feature seafood like lobster or tuna. The service is great and the wine list is diverse. The restaurant is divided in two floors; the retro feel and gray scale tones of their decoration give it a charming atmosphere. -Angeles Fernandez Review © 2007, Wcities |

It's expensive, but what you're paying for are top-quality fresh ingredients and a hushed, respectful atmosphere similar to a gentleman's club. The kitchen specialises in shellfish, paellas, fresh fish and delicious potato salad. The wine list features mostly reds from Rioja. You're surrounded by a traditional decor of lithographs showing landscapes and animals hanging on wood-panelled walls under a wood-panelled ceiling along with red and green velvet drapes. An unusual and unique fusion of Mediterranean and Japanese cuisines, this kitchen serves up dishes like Tuna Tataki with White Garlic And Almond Sauce, and Revuelto de Setas (Scrambled Eggs With Wild Mushrooms). You can choose to eat on the lively and noisy ground floor, or on the brighter and more peaceful first floor. The tables on the latter are squeezed close together and some are in a long row. The restaurant generally attracts trendy people in their 30s who like to be noticed and it is so popular it even fills up on normally quiet Tuesday nights. Despite being fashionable, the prices are reasonable. Review © 2007, Wcities |
