American Style Hamburgers |
Calle de Juan Hurtado de Mendoza 11 Madrid 28036 Spain +34 91 345 16 39 http://www.alfredos-barbacoa.es/ |
Alfredo, a New Yorker living in Madrid, opened his restaurant back in the early 1980s. Since that time, Alfredo’s Restaurant is proud to prepare the original American hamburger. Succulent Buffalo Wings with an excellent barbecue sauce, cabbage salad, or the marvelous Brooklyn hamburger will make you feel as if you were in the United States. This is an ideal place to go with your friends. Don’t forget to make a reservation, as the dining room tends to fill up quickly. -Angeles Fernandez Review © 2007, Wcities |

The emphasis here is on simplicity. The decor is simple and basic. The menu is far from elaborate either, but the results are superb. The wines on offer mainly come from La Rioja and Ribera del Duero. It's located on the first floor of a central office block next to where there was once a pelota (handball) or frontón court, hence the name. Basque cuisine in the great outdoors |
Avenida de Portugal Madrid 28011 Spain +34 (0)91 470 0421 http://www.restauranteguipuzco... |
This prestigious Basque restaurant specialises in chistorra sausage, fresh hake and grilled meats. The dining room holds up to 250 diners and is decorated like a traditional country house in the north of Spain with a warming log fireplace, wooden beams and paintings of Basque landscapes on the walls. One wall is given over to a huge mural depicting the city of San Sebastián. There's also an enormous garden-terrace open in summer where you can sit outside to eat dishes like cod omelette and sardines. Try a glass of cold cider or have a look at the extensive wine list. Basque food in a traditional neighbourhood |
Calle Cava Baja 11 Centro Madrid, Madrid 28005 Spain +34 91 366 7212 |
A typical Madrid tavern-cum-restaurant that serves excellent grilled meats cooked over a barbecue burning Mediterranean oak wood for an extra-special flavour. The manager is an Argentine, hence the grilled meats. But the chef is a Basque, so you can expect specialities like anchovies A la Bilbaína (served hot with vinegar and garlic), sea bream, sea bass, anchovy and baby lettuce salad or tuna steaks with spicy Piquillo red peppers. The private dining room (seating 20) downstairs in the basement retains a surprising historical treasure - remains of the old city walls dating from 1085. Review © 2007, Wcities |
