Enatcar and ALSA have recently merged to create the largest coach company in Spain. They both leave from the Estación Sur coach station, which is the city's biggest. Customer service at the station itself is open from 6a-1:30a (Enatcar) and 6a-midnight (ALSA). But the phone line is open 24 hrs (+34 902 422 242). They offer coaches to Zaragoza, Barcelona, the Levante coast, Asturias, Galicia, Valladolid and León.

Located in the north of the city and just 6km from the airport, Chamartín Station receives trains from France and north and east Spain. This modern station, with an ample hall which resembles that of an airport, offers numerous facilities such as shops, bars and restaurants, bowling, parking, tourist and hotel information, left-luggage office, newsagent, bookshop, car hire, taxi rank and easy access to buses and tube (Chamartín). This network operates within the city, with 179 lines running its length and breadth. The buses are operational from 6a to 9:30p (between Thursday and Sunday they operate till 11:30p at night, after which they operate half hourly between midnight and 3a, and hourly between 3a and 6a). In July 1997, this station was given a new face, and is now the city's largest. There are 40 coach companies operating from here, though you cannot necessarily catch a bus to any part of the country. There are cafés, 30 shops and businesses (including cash points, money exchange, banks, travel agency, etc.), and the station has disabled access (in the toilets too). The information number gives timetables for each bus company as well as the individual numbers for each company.

The bus-station of La Sepulvedana is just before the train station Principe Pío (North). Here only buses of La Sepulvedana ply, although, they ply from the South Station as well. From Principe Pio, the destinations are Toledo, Segovia and Peñafiel, and from the South station they leave to Extremadura, Ávila, Jaén and Úbeda, besides the ones that travel through Madrid.

Modern and welcoming, Barajas Airport is one of the busiest in Europe. One of the main gateways to South American cities, it is located just 8 miles outside Madrid and well-connected to the city centre by bus and tube. Long-term parking facilities consist of an outdoor & indoor car park. A free shuttle bus service provides passengers with convenient transportation between the three terminals. There are several bars and cafés, and the restaurants offer hot food and snacks: buffet-type "El Pardo", "El Retiro", and "El Madroño", with top Spanish cuisine and an a la carte menu, "El Trébol", with a café, self-service restaurant and grill as well as a buffet service. Go for the café for great views of the runaway. VIP lounges are available in all three terminals of the airport. Terminals T1 and T2 have conference and meeting rooms. Visit the Exhibition Hall as well, to relax amongst works of art. There is a free play area for children up to 6 years old in Boarding Area C, and it opens between 8a and 8p daily. Facilities for babies such as cots, baths and changing rooms are also available. All major airlines are served.

Madrid has a clean, fast and safe metro network. There are 10 lines, organized by number and color. For instance, line 10 is blue, 7 is orange, and line 5 is green. They cross the city in different directions, with the exception of line 6, the grey line, which is circular. The metro has stops at the main train stations (Atocha, Chamartín, Principe Pío) as well. The line that reaches the airport – line 8, the pink line, is now open and leaves from Mar de Cristal station. Tickets cost EUR 0.81 for a single journey and EUR 4 for a ticket of 10 journeys. These rates are applicable to buses as well. These tickets can be bought in estancos (tobacconists), at kiosks or at EMT booths throughout the city. They can also be bought in the stations. Traveling by train in Spain can be affordable. New lines of the AVE (Tren de Alta Velocidad) are inaugrated, to unite Madrid with Barcelona and Valencia. Currently RENFE (Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles) counts on commuter trains, for long distances (more than 400 kilometers), such as the Euromed, the Intercity, the Tren Estrella, the Talgo with the AVE Madrid-Seville. Also, there are special tourist offerings for those visiting the city. The two main stations of Madrid are Atocha (to the south) and Chamartín (to the north).
