Cool alternative shopping |
52 Church Street Northern Quarter Manchester M4 1PW United Kingdom +44 161 834 2039 |
This is the place for Manchester trend setters and alternative-minded shoppers. Shop owners and small retail outlets share the floor in this multi-level complex. The stairs are decorated with posters, fliers, photographs and personal ads and the whole place has an irreverent, independent feel. Browse vintage and club clothes, jeans, second-hand and rare music, watches and jewelery. There are some excellent gift and card shops on the ground floor, as well as a hairdresser's and skate shop. You can even find a couple of body piercers and tattooists. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Plenty of well-known retail names |
Market Street Manchester M4 3AQ United Kingdom +44 (0)161 833 9851 http://www.manchesterarndale.com/ |
The Arndale is a massive, sprawling shopping centre on Market Street. While the exterior is fairly anonymous, within you will find a clutch of well-known retailing names such as Benetton, Miss Selfridge, Ravel, Mothercare and Dixons. The Warner Bros Studio Store is the undoubted focal point of the centre's foyer and provides occasional light shows and family entertainment. Other attractions include a large indoor market situated on the lower ground level and stalls range from bargain electronics, shoes and clothes to one of the best fresh fish markets in Manchester. Elegant Victorian arcade |
Barton Arcade Deansgate Manchester M3 2BB United Kingdom |
An elegant glass structure, constructed in 1874 during the reign of Queen Victoria, Barton Arcade oozes old-world charm and sophistication with a peaceful, airy, naturally lit ambience.Although it sustained considerable damage during the IRA bomb blast of 1996, careful, well measured restoration has helped restore the arcade - which is a Grade II listed building - to its original glory. Wander inside and you can admire the delightful coloured tile floors, delicate duck-shell blue walls and ornate white wrought iron work on the balconies above. There are a variety of exclusive boutiques and small independent designer stores located within, along with the unique Belgian chocolate shop, Truffles. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The basement stocks a wide selection of expensive casual clothing from Paul Smith, Diesel, Ted Baker and many more. Stylish Japanese emporium |
The Dome, Dept 889, Selfridges Trafford Centre Manchester M17 8DA United Kingdom +44 161 629 1261 http://www.muji.co.uk/ |
If you are a lover of all things functional and Japanese, you will love this store. To the Western eye, the range of products available in this shop may seem somewhat unusual, covering clothes, storage solutions, stationery, bath products and even furniture and bicycles. Everything shares the same simple, clean style - even down to the design of the store itself - and the goods are all predominantly made from natural products. Prices are generally reasonable considering the quality. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quality arts and jewellery |
17 Oak Street Smithfield Manchester M4 5JD United Kingdom +44 161 832 4274 manager@craftmcr.demon.co.uk |
Situated on the site of Manchester's former fish and poultry market in the Northern Quarter, this centre is the perfect hunting ground for that unusual gift or else just a great place to browse. Originally set up with the idea of creating a unique environment where independent artists could both produce and sell their artwork, it has proved to be a huge success. From ceramics to jewelery, you'll find it here, making it the best place to find something different to anything the high street might have to offer. Review © 2007, Wcities |
