505 Front Street

Shopping Center With Personality
505 Front St
Maui and Molokai, HI 96761
United States
+1 808 667 2514
http://www.lahainarestaurants.com
The way this shopping center looks from the street is deceptive. Once you're in, you'll realize that it is much larger than it looks. The great part is, none of the shops are even remotely cheesy. As one local employee put it, "You won't find any T-shirts or bad art." A fantastic little Internet cafe opens very early in the morning. Specialty shops such as Foreign Intrigue Imports and Lei Spa open around 10a. Dining choices include Pacific'O and Hecock's.

Front Street

Island Paradise Shopping
Front Street
(primarily near the Lahainaluna Road intersection)
Maui and Molokai, HI 96761
United States
Historic Front Street is the main drag in Lahaina, West Maui. It runs along the shoreline, overlooking the ocean. The buildings along the road are reminiscent of Disneyland's Main Street, with colorful wooden buildings perched atop the sandy beach. You can find almost anything you would want or need here. Looking for jewelry? Original Maui Divers is your best bet. Souvenir junkies would do well to browse the super-sized Hilo Hattie's for a unique trinket. Art galleries are prevalent here, and at Simon-Jon Gallery you can purchase some island flair to brighten up your home. For shopping with a more sophisticated air, 505 Front Street is on a quieter stretch of Front Street, and home to many upscale boutiques and acclaimed restaurants. A stroll along Front Street is a pleasant way to spend the day in between catching that next wave.

While this shopping center is too far west to boast proximity to many tourists or even South Maui residents, it contains a number of shopping and dining options that are well worth the drive. The Fishing & Game Brewing Company and Rotisserie and Roy's Kahana Bar & Grill are two great restaurants. Art galleries, clothing retailers and many other kinds of specialty shops are at the restaurant. Store hours and credit card acceptance policies vary by merchant.

Kihei Commercial Center

Local Shops & Services
300 Ohukai Rd
Maui and Molokai, HI 96753
United States
This place is much larger than it might seem at first. It's not easy to find; one must drive down Ohukai Road past the cluster of white stucco buildings that is the Gateway Center. The first visible part of the Commercial Center is Kihei Self Storage. Next to come into view is the center itself. Comprised of auto- body shops, wholesalers, financial services and other glamourless but necessary businesses, the center is a mainstay of Kihei business. It pays to know about the retail businesses here. Places such as Kihei Wine and Spirits, Maui Blooms and Second Chance Furniture offer desirable merchandise at prices much more reasonable than those of their downtown neighbors.

Kihei Gateway Center

Local Commercial Spot
357-380 Huku Li'i Place
Maui and Molokai, HI 96753
United States
It's easy to confuse this center with the Kihei Commercial Center, also located off the Pi'ilani Highway in South Kihei. The store at this center that gets the most traffic is probably Maui Clothing Outlet. Its two sister stores, Footprints and Aloha Gifts, also get plenty of business. Other stores include Maui Golf, Hawaiian Interiorz and Hula Girl. There is always a restaurant/cafe in the space just behind the 76 Station; at present it is South Shore Grindz. A number of business and personal services are also in the center.

Maui and Molokai, HI 96753

Located on a heavily trafficked section of South Kihei Road, this shopping center has a few major businesses. Foremost among them are Foodland, one of Maui's favorite grocery stores, and Chuck's Steakhouse, a large, busy, family-style eatery. A few specialty stores are also located here. The Rainbow Attic is a popular second-hand clothing store, known for its low-priced designer consignments. Diver's Locker rents and sells pro snorkel and dive equipment.

Kukui Mall

Mellow Neighborhood Mall
1819 S Kihei Rd
Maui and Molokai, HI 96753
United States
It has been around for ages, but this mall seems to be going through a hibernation period. (As any retailer will tell you, this is normal for a Maui mall.) Currently it is home to a few restaurants, notably Coconut's Bakery & Cafe and Thailand Cuisine. Longtime clients Waldenbooks and the Kukui Theaters remain, while the opening of a new bank may signal the beginning of a commercial spurt for this sleepy little mall. If not, well, it is still the only place in South Kihei to catch a movie. Note: Credit card acceptance policy varies by merchant.

It is the only fully enclosed shopping center on the island and features more than 50 shops and eateries. Live entertainment is showcased weekly in the center of the mall. Shops include a plethora of Island originals including Serendipity, Maui WaterWear, Longs Drugs Store and Hawaiian Island Gems. Lahaina Center

Where Front Street Begins

Across the street from the Old Lahaina Center sits the sparkling new Lahaina Center. A variety of shops can be found here, including Banana Republic, Coral White, Hilo Hattie's, Maui Tees Outlet, Shoe Fetish, Wet Seal, and Island Swimwear. There is also a hair salon, yoga center, an ABC store (groceries and convenience items), and numerous art galleries. The center also houses Hale Kahiko (Hawaiian for "ancient house"), a replica of a portion of a Hawaiian village. It's free to the public, and is open daily from 9a-6p. Every Wednesday at 2:30 pm and Friday at 3:30 pm Hale Kahiko offers children's hula shows.

Ma'alaea Harbor Village

Charming new shopping center
300 Ma'alaea Rd
Maui and Molokai, HI 96793
United States
+1 808 244 4500
After a slow start, this pretty little shopping center seems to have finally attracted some notice among the tourist contingent. The main attraction is the Maui Ocean Center, the only thing the island has that even remotely resembles a zoo or aquarium. However, plenty of other shops and restaurants are filling up the other spaces, albeit not rapidly. You can now find Maui Dive Shop, Hula Cookies and Ice Cream, and Moonbow Tropics in the center. There are several dynamite restaurants, including newbie Capische!, sophisticated Bamboo Bistro and old favorite Buzz's.

Credit card acceptance varies by merchant.

Maui and Molokai, HI 96732
United States
+1 808 872 4318
http://www.mauimall.com
Small, quiet and charming, this is much more of a neighborhood mall than neighboring Ka'ahumanu Center is. Locals come here to pick up new books, music or sundries. After a recent facelift, the mall is more appealing to the crowds of cruise ship passengers who visit weekly. Longs Drugs and Star Market are the two largest stores. Specialty shops include the Pet Shop and Tempo Music. There are a few eateries, including an International House of Pancakes.

Maui Marketplace

Popular Shopping Center
270 Dairy Rd
Maui and Molokai, HI 96732
United States
+1 808 873 0400
The unveiling of this shopping center marked the beginning of a new era in Maui's commercial development - the era of the chain store invasion. While many people are depressed to see that mainland giants such as Borders and Starbucks have settled into this center, locals seem to be rather happy about it. Independent local merchants such as The Vault and Hawaiian Island Creations are interspersed with the chains, making for good browsing.

Molokai Center

New shopping center
110 Ala Malama
Maui and Molokai, HI 96748
United States
The town of Kaunakakai's only shopping center is small but modern. It is next to the American Savings Bank. The mall is new enough that even locals don't know where it is; they use ASB as a landmark. Stores include Kamakana Gallery and Haunani's Flowers. A chiropractic office is onsite, as is a popular deli and local restaurant. A bulletin board is out front, and many locals have already adopted the courtyard as a meeting and hangout spot.

In other parts of the center, visitors to Maui can book excursions at Fantasy Islands Activities or purchase souvenirs at Maui Clothing Company. Locals swing by to pick up necessities at Foodland or the Lahaina Pharmacy.
