Island Seafood, Olé! |
2439 S Kihei Road Maui and Molokai, HI 96768 United States +1 808 661 9491 |
While the "punny" name is rather charming, it is a bit misleading. This place does not offer everyday cafe au lait, or anything close. Instead, it has food critics and travel writers raving over its inexpensive, innovative food, made from fresh-as-can-be local ingredients. Sample delicacies such as Blackened Mahi-Mahi with Papaya Salsa. Vegetarians absolutely must try the grilled vegetable sandwich. The array of tempting dishes changes with the season. 4100 Wailea Alanui (in the Kea Lani) Maui and Molokai, HI 96753 United States +1 808 875 4100 http://www.fairmont.com/FA/en/... |
Chalk it up to a side effect of the remodeling phase that has hit Maui. What used to be a small, casual deli in the Kea Lani has expanded considerably. The deli remains, but the outdoor patio has become a formal dining establishment. The deli offers an array of baked goods and sandwiches as well as pre-packaged gourmet treats and espresso drinks. It serves into the evening hours. At the adjacent formal restaurant, entrees range from Agnello ai Sapori (grilled lamb chops) to Risotto ai Gamberoni (rice and tiger prawns). Even though you may not be able to pronounce anything on the menu at this charming country restaurant, the richly tantalizing, mouth-watering dishes are sure to please. Signature dishes include Poisson des Iles au Buerre-Blanc which is fresh island fish poached in a rich cream sauce and Carre D'Agneau Facon Paniolo Chutney De Fruits Exotic, a grilled rack of lamb with a Hawaiian-style barbecue marinade. Be alert the first time you drive here. The restaurant is just off a busy highway, and if you aren't paying attention, you may speed right past it. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Seafood on the lagoon |
3850 Wailea Alanui (in the Grand Wailea) Maui and Molokai, HI 96753 United States +1 808 875 1234 |
The name of this restaurant is enough of a mouthful to be a meal in itself—many people shorten it to "Humuhumu." Aside from its name, the restaurant has also received high acclaim for its delicious seafood and its setting. It floats on a lagoon, surrounded by tropical flowers. The signature menu item is the spiny lobster, but be forewarned: it costs a pretty penny. To anyone who is still wondering about the name, it translates to the rather inexplicable phrase "Trigger Fish with a snout like a pig"—the Hawaiian state fish. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The latest brainchild of celebrated chef James McDonald has already won several awards for its innovative gourmet cuisine. A breezy, sunny dining area looks out on the indigo Pacific. Just across the way is sister restaurant Pacific'O. Well-situated diners can often catch a glimpse of The Feast At Lele, which takes place on the beach fronting the restaurant every night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Renowned for its sunset views, mouthwatering menu and reasonable prices, this restaurant does big return business. It serves contemporary cuisine with the Pacific Rim accents that seem to be required of all Maui gourmet rooms. Fish fans will want to savor the catch of the day, while meat eaters might want to get down to business with a hearty Black Angus steak or a rack of lamb. The breakfast and lunch menus are varied and extensive, though not as impressive as the dinner spread. Review © 2007, Wcities |
