Golf minutes from the city |
Queens Road South Melbourne Melbourne, VIC 3205 Australia +61 3 9696 4653 http://www.golfvictoria.com.au |
Located only two kilometres from the middle of Melbourne's central business district, the Albert Park Golf Course forms another leg of what has become a thriving hub of outdoor activities. Running parallel with several of the fairways is the Australian Grand Prix racetrack. There is also a 270 metre driving range catering for 60 people at a time. Putting greens, pitching areas and sand bunkers can also be used to help knock edges off any rough form. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Seaside |
Golf Links Road Melbourne, VIC 3227 Australia +61 3 5255 6255 http://www.bhgc.com.au/ |
Barwon Heads Golf Course is a links style course set in the midst of tea trees and sand dunes. Undulating, with slick greens and fast running fairways, it is one of the toughest golf courses in Victoria. The bunkers are strategically located to throw that little extra spanner in the works, and there is also plenty of impact from the winds off Bass Strait. Eighteen hole rounds can be arranged any time during the week, excluding public holidays. Although rather expensive, it is worth the outlay for golfing aficionados looking for a real challenge. The tougher of the two courses, with a course record of 71, it is only open to the public outside of competition times, which usually occur on weekends and Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The Dunes has only recently undergone a total redesign as a result of new owners taking over the course five years ago. Mini-golf, rock climbing, ropes and more |
363-5 Maroondah Highway Chirnside Park Melbourne, VIC 3116 Australia +61 3 9727 3082 |
Adventure (mini) golf, rock climbing and ropes are the main attractions here. This makes it more an outing for school age children, although younger ones can have a go on the mini-golf with adult supervision. Budding Greg Normans will certainly find plenty of fun and challenge on the two 18-hole courses. For greater physical exertion, visit on the weekend and try rock climbing or the commando-style ropes course which also involves clambering over boulders and tightrope walking. Costs: Adventure Golf (one round): adults AUD9; children AUD6; family AUD14. Rockclimbing: adults AUD9.90; concession AUD7. Ropes course: adults AUD9; juniors AUD6. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Morack Golf Course is one of the many hidden treasures around Melbourne's golf course landscape. Although only 30 minutes drive from the city centre, you could be deep in the countryside, such is the feeling of solitude, with views of the Dandenong Ranges making for a pleasant round. The course itself is challenging without being too difficult, a hilly par 71. A 16 bay under cover driving range is also available to use, along with a practice chipping green and bunker. Admission: 18 holes round AUD12 weekends, and AUD11 midweek. Buggy hire AUD3, club hire AUD5 to AUD10. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular eastern suburbs golf course |
352 Canterbury Road Ringwood Melbourne, VIC 3134 Australia +61 3 9298 4854 http://www.ringwoodgolfclub.co... |
This popular public golf course is nearly always busy, therefore booking ahead is essential. Once you are there, you will find a relatively comfortable par 70 course that gets more difficult than you might expect over the back nine. The bunkers and dam also make the journey quite challenging. Once you have finished for the day, head for the sit down, licensed Spike's bar and bistro to discuss the game. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bushland oasis in the suburbs |
1012 Riversdale Road Surrey Hills Melbourne, VIC 3127 Australia +61 3 9888 9989 http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/ |
Generations of Melbourne children have climbed in, out and over the old trams parked here, rather incongruously, in the bushland setting. They are still a major drawcard of this sprawling park, which also comprises a golf course, tennis courts, barbecues and an oval. At the centre of the park is the charming Wattle Park Chalet, built in the 1920's and often used for receptions. A newer addition is a well-designed and constructed adventure playground. Apart from the odd traffic noises, it is easy to imagine you are in the bush. A kiosk near the golf course sells light snacks. Review © 2007, Wcities |
