The Collingwood Magpies' black and white stripes are one of the enduring symbols of Australian Rules football and the team attracts a "love them or loathe them" reaction from football fans. Since its memorable 1990 flag, Collingwood's on-field power has waned. In 1999 the club finished last on the ladder for the first time in its long, proud history.
