The Limerick Arms claims to be one of Melbourne's oldest pubs, started in the 1860s by the two Irish brothers who went on to form Australia's famous Tooheys brewing label. Tooheys came to be more popular in New South Wales than the lads' original adopted state. The Limerick Arms still retains its Irish feel, albeit with plenty of flowers and a modern, uncluttered interior. Jazz musicians perform regularly, while the pub's Friday night sessions are among the best to be found in the city. In warmer weather there are plenty of tables outside, so you can take advantage of the less confined climes.
