Established in 1867, the South Melbourne Market is a true gem--one of the few reminders of the old colonial Melbourne. It is primarily a fruit and vegetable market with an amazing array and quality. Melbourne food markets do not come any better than the South Melbourne and the Queen Victoria Markets, both treasured inner city landmarks. Although modern high rises have dwarfed the market in recent years, it still remains a favourite amongst local residents and visitors alike.
