The month-long Memphis in May festival incorporates a broad mix of cultural and entertainment events, and the Great Wine Race may be one of the most unusual of the officially sanctioned activities. Local restaurants enter teams of employees in a relay race that requires them to run with fully loaded trays of filled wine glasses, passing the trays off to team members like batons. The accompanying parade and awarding of prizes to local winemakers are also worth seeing.
