Large shop with wide aisles |
4646 Poplar Avenue Memphis, TN 38117 United States |
This sprawling shop will pose a challenge to the traveling antiques hunter looking for something small enough to carry home on an airplane, but the hunt is half the fun and there is plenty to search through. Large country kitchen tables from the nineteenth century along with sideboards and armoires abound. Wall art, such as a sampler from the 1880s or mirrors from the early twentieth, century can be found. Smaller items include flowerpots, china dishes and figurines. Large, quality selection of second-hand books |
6112 Quince Road (at Ridgeway) Memphis, TN 38119 United States +1 901 683 2367 |
This buy, sell and trade store, located in a non-descript shopping center, features an unusually broad selection of reading materials. Unlike many second-hand bookshops, this one sells hardcovers as well as paperbacks. There's a good selection of classics, mystery/suspense novels, science fiction books and westerns. There is even an entire room in the back just for romance novels. There are some gems to be found here, including a few autographed copies, mostly by local authors. Paperbacks are sold for half of the cover price and may be returned for half of the purchase price in exhange for credit toward other books in stock. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Specialty shops on the edge of Germantown |
6685 Poplar Pike (At Kirby) Memphis, TN 38119 United States +1 901 759 0448 |
This mall may look like just another upscale suburban strip mall, but it is worth exploring. Anchored at one end by a Border's bookstore with arguably the best bookstore café in Memphis (live music on weekends and a showcase for local artists on one wall), the mall also has a couple of dress shops: Casual Corner and Paul Harris. The surprises are in a store called Happy Names that will engrave or paint anything you buy with your name or someone's else's, and has an interesting array of food items, including dips and candies. In the corner of the parking lot is a Macaroni Grill restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Started by a trader when the city was just a crossing point on the Mississippi River, Macy's is a Memphis tradition. It is now owned by one of the larger chains, but it continues in its role as Memphis' most upscale department store. The mall has a particularly good furniture and housewares section, with a comprehensive selection of fine rugs. All of Memphis turns out for Macy's One Day Sales. Art, antiques and more |
4615 Poplar Avenue Memphis, TN 38117 United States +1 901 685 3200 |
Although a sign on the door tells you this charming shop sells antiques, check out the art work, too. The antiques are just a small collection of furniture in a variety of eras, styles and functions. It's the artwork that makes this place worth a visit. Most is in the primitive or folk art genre and is delightful. Clay sculptures, as small as a pack of playing cards, to oil paintings large enough to dominate an entire wall are intriguing. Much of the art has a religious theme. Review © 2007, Wcities |
