Started by a trader when the city was just a crossing point on the Mississippi River, Macy's is a Memphis tradition. It is now owned by one of the larger chains, but it continues in its role as Memphis' most upscale department store. The mall has a particularly good furniture and housewares section, with a comprehensive selection of fine rugs. All of Memphis turns out for Macy's One Day Sales.
