Specialty shops on the edge of Germantown |
6685 Poplar Pike (At Kirby) Memphis, TN 38119 United States +1 901 759 0448 |
This mall may look like just another upscale suburban strip mall, but it is worth exploring. Anchored at one end by a Border's bookstore with arguably the best bookstore cafĂ© in Memphis (live music on weekends and a showcase for local artists on one wall), the mall also has a couple of dress shops: Casual Corner and Paul Harris. The surprises are in a store called Happy Names that will engrave or paint anything you buy with your name or someone's else's, and has an interesting array of food items, including dips and candies. In the corner of the parking lot is a Macaroni Grill restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upscale discount stores |
7700 Poplar Avenue (East of Farmington Road) Memphis, TN 38138 United States |
In the affluent suburb of Germantown, east of downtown Memphis, is this strip mall where you will find bargains, from fashions to furniture. Here you'll find a T.J. Maxx store selling designer clothes to fashion-conscious women at off-brand prices, a Bookstar store that discounts the same books found elsewhere, and a branch of the locally owned Fleming's Fine Furniture. You will also find bargain housewares and furniture with an Eastern flair at Pier One. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upscale department store |
4545 Poplar Avenue (Oak Court Mall) Memphis, TN 38117 United States +1 901 766 4199 |
Started by a trader when the city was just a crossing point on the Mississippi River, Macy's is a Memphis tradition. It is now owned by one of the larger chains, but it continues in its role as Memphis' most upscale department store. The mall has a particularly good furniture and housewares section, with a comprehensive selection of fine rugs. All of Memphis turns out for Macy's One Day Sales. Stop by the cosmetics department for a consultation, or visit the beauty salon within the store. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If the weather is too hot to get your exercise outside, come walk around this air conditioned mall a couple of times. Its one story spreads out in three directions, with department stores (Sears, Goldsmith's and Dillard's) at the end of each leg. A circuit around the mall takes you past a restored carousel from Italy, a stream and fountains in the atrium, and a sunken amphitheater with a moat. On the second trip around the mall, stop at the coffee bar in the middle of the atrium for a cappuccino or mocha freeze. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In a city unknown for boutique shops, this shopping center has an amazing collection of small stores featuring designer clothing for both men and women. Make your way through James Davis, Joseph's, Colony Shop and Talbot's, browsing through the top-notch selection of quality dresses, suits and accessories. Other shops worth visiting are King Furs and Fine Jewelry, the David Lusk Gallery and Cotton Tails for children's clothing. Stop along the way and pick up some locally-made chocolates at Dinstuhl's. Don't miss Davis-Kidd Booksellers, a large independent shop. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upscale mall in East Memphis |
4465 Poplar Ave (At Perkins Extended) Memphis, TN 38112 United States +1 901 682 8928 http://www.simon.com/mall/defa... |
This small shopping mall in East Memphis is set in a park-like area with large trees shading the parking lot on the Poplar Avenue side. The upscale shops attract an "adult" audience: this is not the teenage hangout that some malls have become. The two anchor department stores are Goldsmith's and Dillard's. Between them, you will find a number of specialty shops, including The Gap, The Disney Store, Godiva Chocolates and Victoria's Secret. The center of this two storey mall contains several interesting sculptures, including one in which a 7,000 pound marble ball is suspended by a stream of water. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Restaurants in the University area |
62 South Prescott Street (On Poplar at Highland) Memphis, TN 38111 United States +1 901 458 8922 |
This mall has gone through a lot of changes: in the early 1990s, most of its stores were vacant. Now, the old Poplar Plaza Theater has been renovated and turned into a Bookstar super book store, with the cinema marquee and box office still intact. Other merchants in the mall include Old Navy and a pet supply store. However, the big draw here is the variety of restaurants: from the potato skins of Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill to the enchiladas of El Porton to the pastrami sandwiches at McAlister's Gourmet Deli.
