Huge mall with 170+ dealers |
3400 Summer Avenue (1 block west of North Highland) Memphis, TN 38122 United States +1 901 323 2050 |
This 40,000 square foot antique mall is located on the slightly seedy Summer Avenue strip on the north side of Memphis, which may account for the fact that the prices here are more reasonable than those at some of the antique shops in trendier areas such as midtown. More than 170 independent dealers operate booths in this mall, guaranteeing that you will find an eclectic array of every conceivable type of antique and collectible, from furniture to pottery, fine jewelry to bric-a-brac and knick-knacks. Look particularly for southern memorabilia such as Coca-Cola promotional items or relics from Memphis' music history. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Treasure hunter's delight |
3457 Summer Avenue Memphis, TN 38122 United States +1 901 452 5620 |
A long narrow shop in an old strip mall, this is the kind of place for treasure hunters to spend an afternoon. No particular theme can be discerned for most of the booths; any sort of antique might be found. A lot of furniture, old photographs and prints, and a few small tapestries can be found. Several booth spaces have religious prints . One display cabinet features a collection of swords; others have folding cameras dating back to the early twentieth century. Although the shop is not brightly lit, it has roomy enough aisles to move about and get a good look at the merchandise. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upscale department store |
4545 Poplar Avenue (Oak Court Mall) Memphis, TN 38117 United States +1 901 766 4199 |
Started by a trader when the city was just a crossing point on the Mississippi River, Macy's is a Memphis tradition. It is now owned by one of the larger chains, but it continues in its role as Memphis' most upscale department store. The mall has a particularly good furniture and housewares section, with a comprehensive selection of fine rugs. All of Memphis turns out for Macy's One Day Sales. Stop by the cosmetics department for a consultation, or visit the beauty salon within the store. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Art, antiques and more |
4615 Poplar Avenue Memphis, TN 38117 United States +1 901 685 3200 |
Although a sign on the door tells you this charming shop sells antiques, check out the art work, too. The antiques are just a small collection of furniture in a variety of eras, styles and functions. It's the artwork that makes this place worth a visit. Most is in the primitive or folk art genre and is delightful. Clay sculptures, as small as a pack of playing cards, to oil paintings large enough to dominate an entire wall are intriguing. Much of the art has a religious theme. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upscale mall in East Memphis |
4465 Poplar Ave (At Perkins Extended) Memphis, TN 38112 United States +1 901 682 8928 http://www.simon.com/mall/defa... |
This small shopping mall in East Memphis is set in a park-like area with large trees shading the parking lot on the Poplar Avenue side. The upscale shops attract an "adult" audience: this is not the teenage hangout that some malls have become. The two anchor department stores are Goldsmith's and Dillard's. Between them, you will find a number of specialty shops, including The Gap, The Disney Store, Godiva Chocolates and Victoria's Secret. The center of this two storey mall contains several interesting sculptures, including one in which a 7,000 pound marble ball is suspended by a stream of water. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Restaurants in the University area |
62 South Prescott Street (On Poplar at Highland) Memphis, TN 38111 United States +1 901 458 8922 |
This mall has gone through a lot of changes: in the early 1990s, most of its stores were vacant. Now, the old Poplar Plaza Theater has been renovated and turned into a Bookstar super book store, with the cinema marquee and box office still intact. Other merchants in the mall include Old Navy and a pet supply store. However, the big draw here is the variety of restaurants: from the potato skins of Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill to the enchiladas of El Porton to the pastrami sandwiches at McAlister's Gourmet Deli. Nonprofit organization serves great lunches |
88 Racine St (Between Poplar Ave and Walnut Grove) Memphis, TN 38111 United States +1 901 327 5681 http://www.womans-exchange.com... |
Other chapters around the country sell cottage craft goods made by people who must work from home because of disability or other reasons. The Memphis organization does too, but also runs a successful tearoom that serves lunch on weekdays. A selection of three main courses is offered: classics such as salmon loaf, juicy beef tenderloin, or a vegetable plate. The $8 price includes a small green salad, choice of iced tea or coffee and the day's dessert. Set in a charming house in Midtown, no fancy decor here, but you feel like you're a guest in someone's (large) dining room. Review © 2007, Wcities |
