11th Street Diner

Authentic Americana
1065 Washington Avenue
Miami, FL 33139
United States
+1 305 534 6373
For a healthy dose of Golden Oldies ambience, visit this South Beach favorite. You will feel like you have been transported 40 years back in time. For 48 years the diner was actually located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In 1992 it was dismantled and transported to Miami Beach, where it received an enthusiastic reception. In addition to diner staples like burgers, fries, and great milkshakes, the restaurant serves a variety of salads, cold sandwiches, chicken and pasta dishes. Plates cost between USD3-USD11.

Located inside the Albion Hotel, this is a favorite spot for light food and cocktails. The menu features sandwiches, salads, a variety of fruits, and fresh, seasonal foods (but nothing hot) in the USD10-USD15 price range. The Pantry serves diners on a terrace that looks out onto a palm courtyard and pool. Beautiful people tend to flock to the Albion, so the ever-changing view is always lovely.

Bongo's Cuban Cafe

Drumming up a good time
601 Biscayne Boulevard
Miami, FL 33132
United States
+1 786 777 2100
http://www.bongoscubancafe.com/
Miami's first couple, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, along with co-proprietor Jorge Larios score another hit with Bongo's, a lively combination restaurant, bar and nightclub. The traditional menu features the familiar fare found at most local Cuban restaurants. Specialty dishes include Slow-Roasted Half Chicken marinated in orange, lime and herbs and a grilled boneless strip steak. The festive, colorful atmosphere and decor is contagious. Get your dance shoes out on Fridays and Saturdays at 11p when the cafe converts into a nightclub (a cover charge applies) and the real fun begins.

One of several locations all over Miami, including the international airport, this is the Cuban equivalent of an upscale American fast food chain. The selection of low-priced traditional fare is comprehensive, and the portions are generous. Service is fast and friendly. The atmosphere is extremely casual. Typical Cuban dishes are served: Palomilla Steak with Rice and Black Beans and a serving of Plantains, or the Cuban Sandwich and Flan for dessert.

Mr. Burritos

Burritos on the beach
1050 Collins Avenue
Miami, FL 33139-5012
United States
+1 305 674 0038
Located in the heart of South Beach, this little eatery is a healthy Americanized version of a taqueria. While the burritos are not authentic, they are healthy and tasty. Due to the central location and the low prices, this place gets a lot of traffic. Burritos, Tamales, Rellenos, and Quesadillas are tasty and cheap (under $5). For an odd variation on the classic, try the Hawaiian burrito: all the normal ingredients plus pineapple. The atmosphere is as casual as can be. Prices are low, and a lot of people opt for takeout or delivery.

Viajante Segundo

Indoor/outdoor Cuban cafe
1676 Collins Avenue
Miami, FL 33139
United States
+1 305 534 2101
Simplicity is the beauty of this place: good, solid Cuban favorites for low, low prices. The cafe caters to a South Beach tourist crowd, due to its location on Collins Avenue. Sip on a colada while you watch the crazy South Beach scene all around you. Go for the basics like Pounded Palomilla Steak garnished with onions, ropa vieja, ham croquettes. Black beans are delicious. The indoor/outdoor dining option is particularly attractive on warm Miami nights.
