Al Porto

Popular seafood spot
Piazzale Antonio Cantore
Milan, Milan 20123
Italy
+39 2 832 1481 / +39 28940 7425
You will not have trouble finding this restaurant, one of the city's most popular. The restaurant, specialising in seafood, can be found in the former customs and excise checkpoint of Porta Genova. Its great location and the presence of a lovely garden overlooking the Darsena are the ingredients that have lead to its success. It offers classical food with lots of choice so you won't be disappointed. Among the excellent dishes are the clam and mussel soup and the smoked bass.

Behind the cathedral, in a narrow alley in the historic, old, picturesque Milan, this is a famous restaurant that upholds the Tuscan traditions. The restaurant is elegant and upper class but very easy going, suitable for a formal dinner or a quiet dinner a deux. Don't miss the fresh pasta and the grills, the Fiorentina di Chianina, the fillets and the fish mixed grill. Home-made desserts and excellent wines add a nice touch.

Bice

Smart set's favourite

Situated in a choice spot at the heart of Milan's chic shopping district (Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Manzoni and Piazza San Babila), this legendary restaurant, initially a popular lunchtime venue for downtown industrialists and bankers, became a big favourite with Milan's smart set during the 1980s. Little has changed since then and the restaurant remains high profile. Bice's menu features a selection of sublime soups, risottos and meat dishes.

Bitta

Top class Tuscan trattoria to bear in mind
3 Via del Carmine
Milan, Milan 20121
Italy
+39 2 7200 3185
A classic, elegant, pleasant venue that does not cost a great deal; without a doubt one of the best in the city. The restaurant is lovely in a quiet yet central street and is relatively small. Attentive but informal service makes for a pleasant meal. Seafood is the focus, and there are some real culinary delights on the menu: prawn and courgette fritters, seafood risotto, salted sea bass as well as cuts of meat and fillets!

Cracco-Peck

Milan's Harrods
4 Via Victor Hugo
Milan, Milan 20123
Italy
+39 2 87 6774

Since 1883, Peck's has styled itself, "the Temple of Italian Gastronomy"; for the Milanese, this favourite luxury delicatessen is on a par with Fauchon in Paris or London's Harrods. Buy some delicious Prosciutto or parmesan cheese to take away or have shipped home. For more of the same at a luxurious sit-down meal and for a taste of the deli's fabulous desserts, pop into its restaurant near the shop (just along from the Duomo). The eatery remains closed on Sundays.

Di Gennaro

Perfect pizza in friendly atmosphere
14 Via Santa Radegonda
Milan, Milan 20121
Italy
+39 2 805 3454
Still dishing up some of the city's best traditional fare after years in the business, Di Gennaro's is quite simply the daddy of all pizzerias. Pizza classics take shape as they have always done in the old-fashioned tiled oven, and Di Gennaro's does not stop there - they also feature a number of other gastronomic delights with gnocchi alla romana starring as the house specialty. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and the house is always packed.

Giannino

Temple of tradition
8 Via Sciesa
Milan, Milan 20135
Italy
+39 2 5519 5582
Giannino is a temple of Italian traditional haute cuisine, where you can relax assured of the fact that this is an excellent quality restaurant. High prices, perfect service; in the roomy, welcoming rooms which are furnished in the style of the belle époque. A not-so-youngish blend of managers and professionals gather to dine in a very sophisticated atmosphere. If you go there for lunch don't take your car: parking can be really hard, since the little parking lot just outside is always full. Customers can be assured that anything on the menu is first-class, from homemade pastas to seafood, from desserts to wines. Their specialties include saffron risotto, turbot with laurel and sweet garlic sauce, and the cream and apricot dessert. One special suggestion is the classic Cotoletta alla milanese: Giannino's version is sublime.

Navigante

Lobster and music
14 Via Magolfa
Milan, Milan 20143
Italy
+39 2 8940 6320
In one of the most attractive areas around the canal, the Via Magolfa winds around the top towards the inside, narrow, winding, not too busy: one of the few places in the city where the metropolitan aspect has not taken over. Pleasant to go on foot. The restaurant is elegant has a good carpark, there is air-conditioning and live music plays in the background. The menu is of course based on fish, more specifically lobster and other sea food. Especially good for lovers of crustaceans and a cheerful atmosphere.
