Water-themed festival |
81 South Street #260 Minneapolis, MN 55402 +1 612 338 0634 http://www.aquatennial.org |
For 10 festive days in July, Minneapolis celebrates one of the things it is best known for: lakes. A Saturday Grande Day Parade and a Wednesday evening Torchlight Parade highlight this festival. The Hennepin Avenue block party and the Boom Island party feature live music and great food. The Aquatennial Tennis Invitational, the Nicollet Mall craft fair, the Milk Carton Boat Race on Lake Nokomis and a Sand Sculpturing and Sand Castle competition at Lake Calhoun are other annual traditions. Water comes into play with a youth fishing clinic and a sailing regatta on Lake Calhoun as well as guided canoe trips on the Mississippi River. The fireworks display finale is consistently considered one of the top five in the nation. Review © 2009, Wcities |
