With cool 1940's decor, the Modern looks anything but modern. A younger, hip crowd flocks here for the New England-style pot roast, pan-roasted chicken breasts with garlic mashed potatoes, black bean soup with chopped jalapeno or fried catfish with polenta. Salads, pasta dishes, burgers and sandwiches are also featured. Desserts include a chocolate tart or fresh plum and peach crisp topped with vanilla ice cream.
