Prime meeting spot |
700 Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, MN 55401 +1 612 375 2938 |
From 1947 until the mid-1960s, this restaurant was the prime meeting spot for Twin City power brokers. In fact, women were not allowed to dine in the oak-paneled confines unless escorted by a gentleman. Although the restriction ceased during the Kennedy administration, the rich décor of years gone by remains. The comfortable leather chairs, fireplace and red walls still ring of an exclusive men's club. The Mandarin chicken salad smothered with bacon, crispy pea pods and water chestnuts is a staple of the menu. Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and vegetables is real home cooking. The Oak Grill is known for its complimentary, fresh-baked and flaky popovers. Beer, wine, cocktails or soft drinks are served. Review © 2009, Wcities |
