Downtown Stillwater is home to many Victorian-style buildings housing a multitude of bars. Duck into the cool interior of this one for a cold beer on a hot summer day. It started as a 1950s meat market, but today the building is home to a restaurant, party room and bar. The saloon is street-level and quite charming. Antique advertising adds to its turn of the century atmosphere and wooden booths allow for privacy.

Burgers, corned beef and homemade brats make up the standard-fare menu. Allow room for an ice cream fountain treat. Beer, wine, liquor and soft drinks are available.

This place has a very country club-like feel and charm all its own. In the spring and summer, dining outdoors is particularly pleasant with spectacular views of Lake Kingsley. For casual affairs, opt for pub-style fare, such as chicken wings and fries from Starboard, the restaurant's bar. For dinner, a perfect start is the honey dijon salad. The mushroom and wild rice pilaf-stuffed chicken breast glazed with an unforgettable cream sauce is a hit. If you want to jump right into a fancy dinner, then the roast duckling, escargot and flavorful shrimp Alexander are good bets. A crab-stuffed rainbow trout is a favorite among the fish selections. Sunday means champagne brunch, and dinner is a smorgasbord-style picnic.

Minneapolis, MN 55104
United States
+1 651 488 4920
http://www.comopark.com/pavili...
Located on the eastern edge of Como Park, this old favorite has graced the shore of Como Lake for more than 100 years. Less than ten years ago, it underwent a complete renewal. It had been boarded up and steadily declining throughout the 1980s. The structure was actually torn down and completely rebuilt, though it has the same design as before. On its wide veranda stage overlooking the lake, free concerts and plays are offered during the summer months. The building houses Black Bear Crossings on the Lake, meeting rooms and banquet facilities. In the summer, paddle boats and canoes are available for rental use on the small lake.

Freight House

Beautiful View for Patio Dining
305 S Water St
Minneapolis, MN 55082
United States
+1 651 439 5718
One of the best things about this restaurant is the patio, so if you are tempted to sit inside, don't. The food is unremarkable, and the prices are high for what you get. The menu includes all the usual fare: sandwiches, burgers, salads, pasta, steak, ribs, chops and shrimp. But the view is what continues to make this a visitor favorite. Just a few feet away is the beautiful St. Croix River, a national Scenic Waterway. Located in the old Burlington Northern train station, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hard Rock Café does not just offer a unique dining experience...though some of the most yummy barbeque ribs are served here. The special thing about the cafe is that it is located right next to the Mississipi river, which makes it an ideal place to sit on the patio. The walls are layered with rock memorabilia from Prince to Mary J. Blige and you cannot miss the classic purple car stuck in the wall. The menu serves an extensive number of dishes from sandwiches to steaks; try the legendary 10 ounce burger or the Jumbo Combo.

Each ticket for this nostalgic trip includes a five-course dinner, entertainment and the train ride, which takes about three and a half hours. Board at the historic Stillwater Depot. The Grand Dome car offers the best views, but all of the cars are luxurious and restored to perfection. Feel free to tour the train during the run. The daytime trips (noon departure) offer great views, but the evening trips (7:30p, Su 6p) may be the most romantic and dramatic. Attire is semi formal, so look your best and enjoy this elegant setting. The strolling Zephyr Cabaret will serenade you with hits of the 1940s and 1950s in period costume. A gourmet meal is served on white linen-clad tables with fine china service, by candlelight on the evening ride. Entrees are chosen at the time of ticket purchase. Courses include appetizer, a fresh crisp salad, a delicious soup du jour, your choice of three entrees and a delectable dessert to complete your repast.
