501 E Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55414-1122 United States +1 612 331 3360 |
This Latin Bistro doubles as a bar/nightclub. Some favorites from the dinner menu are the chicken in garlic sauce, spicy shrimp Creole, beef tenderloin, and paella. After dinner, the fully stocked bar keeps the Latin beats drumming to bargoers and salsa dancers until 2 a.m. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Polish Fare at this 'Nordeast' Bar |
1319 Marshall St NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 United States +1 612 378 2118 |
This humble but clean meeting place for the after-work factory and warehouse crowd is the epitome of a Nordeast bar. Darts, pool and video games bring the regulars back. Belly up to the bar or stake out a table or booth and knock back a beer. The kitchen stays open until closing and serves up greasy burgers and juicy sausage. The specialty of the house is Polish soup. This potato, cabbage, sausage and ham mixture is homemade and always steaming hot. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bright and cheery |
212 East Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55414 United States +1 612 623 7999 |
One visit and you will be glad you took the advice of the restaurant with the somewhat odd-sounding name. This small pizzeria is bright and cheery with superb service. The pizza is sans meat, but who needs it when you can tantalize the taste buds with artichoke hearts, roasted garlic parmesan and Portobello mushrooms? Both the pizzas and salads are sold by the pound. Normally, four vegetarian combo pizzas are available each day so if you can't make up your mind, ask for a small slice of each. For dessert, try the huge, Double Chocolate Brownies or ice cream. A soft drink, beer or wine will round out your veggie feast. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Young, hip crowd |
329 13th Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 United States +1 612 623 4211 |
This is a cross between a traditional supper club and chic nightclub. It appeals to the young, hip crowd yet draws guests from all lifestyles. With cool jazz piped through the roomy dining area, darkly painted walls and somewhat subdued lighting, there's a certain funky feel to place. The menu features succulent steaks, fresh fish and seafood, poultry and vegetarian entrees. The halibut is fresh, moist and flaky, the steaks are thick and juicy and the chicken is lip-smacking good. Shrimp, crab or chicken pasta dishes are also on the menu. All entrees are served with salad, potato or vegetables and rolls. Shrimp cocktail or crab cakes will start you off and cheesecake or Key lime pie will provide the finishing touch. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Best Greek cuisine in town |
19 5th Street Northeast Minneapolis, MN 55413 United States +1 612 378 0611 |
This appealing café has by far the best Greek cuisine in town. A small fountain and flourishing plants create a miniature conservatory. The chalkboard menu always includes inexpensive and imaginative entrees. Start with the luscious scarlet peppers and beets. Follow with a Greek salad of hand-torn romaine dressed with vinaigrette. Braised lamb simmered in a tomato sauce or the souvlaki, chunks of lamb, tomato and onion wrapped in pita, are flawless entrees. For dessert, opt for the kataifi, a syrup-soaked shredded-wheat pastry. Domestic and Greek wine and beer, mineral water, soft drinks and tea are available. Salonica also offers a small take-out deli counter. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Boisterous German beer garden |
2300 University Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55418 United States +1 612 781 3860 http://www.gasthofzg.com/ |
An authentic, boisterous German beer garden awaits behind the large wooden doors. Leaded-glass windows, Tiffany-style lamps, elaborately painted walls and the high, beamed ceiling lend an old world atmosphere. Dine to the tunes of the strolling accordionists. The veal in mushroom wine gravy served with bread dumplings and vegetables or a thick smoked pork chop served with potato salad and sauerkraut, topped off with a side of red cabbage, is true German fare. Traditional German-style rabbit marinated and braised in a sweet and sour sauce, bratwurst, sauerbraten aspic, Polish sausage and Weiner Schnitzel are other menu highlights. For dessert, do not pass up the apple strudel. If beer is not your idea of a thirst quencher, German and other imported wines, cocktails and soft drinks are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

On a budget? |
1590 69th Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55432 United States +1 612 379 7870 |
On a budget? Score at the Goal Line Café. This friendly neighborhood watering hole isn't much on décor but it does make for an inexpensive night. Pinball, pool and video games are your entertainment choices if the conversation starts to drag. The beer is cheap. Have a beer, greasy burger, fries and game of pool and get change back from your $5. The menu also offers sandwiches, chips, coffee and soft drinks. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Original Pizza Brew-Pub in St. Paul |
1342 Grand St NE Minneapolis, Minnesota 55413 United States +1 6516980353 http://www.greenmill.com/ |
The view is one of gleaming tanks and hoses at this real brewery that is also a pizzeria and restaurant. Lunch specials usually include a pizza item as well as a sandwich, while full dinners are offered along with pies, seven days a week. The beer is similar to home-brew and pies include the usual and also high end ingredients such artichoke hearts and red peppers. Other items include chicken wings, hamburgers, steaks, and pastas. This location delivers to a limited area, as do all the over 30 locations do. This one is the original and arguably, the best. - Marie Richie Review © 2007, Wcities |

Attracts a diverse crowd |
2513 Central Ave Northeast Minneapolis, MN 55418 United States +1 612 781 2627 |
Make a pilgrimage to this Middle Eastern eatery. There are a few simple tables in the deli area, but most come for take-out or groceries. Home of the self-proclaimed "biggest gyro in town," stuffed with grilled slices of beef and lamb, the pita overflows. The deli menu features vegetarian dishes along with entrees featuring chicken and veggies. The kufta, charbroiled ground-lamb patties served with salad and pita bread, is a definite favorite. The bakery boasts a great selection of Middle Eastern baked goods, such as baklava and honey cake. The grocery carries everything you will need to stock a Lebanese pantry from olives and bulk spices to cheeses and peppers. Juices, coffees, teas and soft drinks are available with your order. You will feel right at home |
1928 University Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55418 United States +1 612 789 7297 http://www.jaxcafe.com/ |
This supper club has been a northeast Minneapolis icon since it opened in 1933. The service is impeccable and the surroundings are stylish, whether it is the white linen main dining area or the relaxing garden patio. The stained glass windows, the antique wooden phone booths and the large fireplace provide a nostalgic, yet elegant, atmosphere. Steak, prime rib, lobster, salmon and trout head the menu. Each is served with a crispy salad or bowl of homemade soup, choice of potato or vegetable of the day and a large breadbasket. You'll know the lobster and trout are fresh as you pick them from the large tanks and fresh water stream that greets patrons as they enter. An excellent selection of beer, wine, liquor and soft drinks are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Friendly Neighborhood Place |
1828 4th St NE Minneapolis, MN 55418 United States +1 612 788 1383 |
It has been said there are more little bars tucked away in Nordeast than in any other area of the Twin Cities. A longtime staple of Northeast Minneapolis, this spot is no exception. You will not find music or high-class entertainment, but you will find friendly bartenders, dartboards and video games. Converse with friends or pass the time watching the tube. Drop in for a quick beverage (beer, cocktail, soft drink) and perhaps a bowl of soup or a sandwich. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Virtually reinvents itself |
205 East Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55414 United States +1 612 617 1111 |
After moving to its new location and virtually reinventing itself, this stylish spot has proved a success. Instead of bargain basement, the seats are glossy and the booths are velvet-covered. Grunge and punk rockers are replaced with big band jazz, blues and folk music. The somewhat dreary surroundings give way to shiny, silver metallic walls and a sleek appearance. Staying the same, however, is the tasty food and excellent wine list. Burritos, salads, soups, pasta dishes, sandwiches and pizza are tasty for lunch and great to nibble on while listening to music in the evening. In the morning, it's a jolt of espresso, latte or good old strong coffee and a fresh baked pastry. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Expansive Bar and Dance Floor |
1032 3rd Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 United States +1 612 331 7955 |
Many Mexican joints claim to be authentic only to end up being a disappointment. However, this one stands behind its claim and you can believe it. The décor is Southwestern with an expansive bar and dance floor. Karaoke is featured on Monday and Tuesday nights with Latin music being spun by a DJ the other nights. In between dancing or singing, try your hand at pool, darts or video games. The décor may not be true Mexican but the food is definitely south of the border. If you cannot handle the spicy food, opt for a burger or taco salad. If you go for the spicy, be sure to have a cool beverage nearby. Mexican beer and a variety of flavored margaritas should help quench the thirst of most. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Roll out the barrel with live music at this German bar. Located in the lower level of the German restaurant Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit in northeast Minneapolis, this pub features live music five nights a week. Small, Historic Neighborhood Restaurant |
337 NE 13th Ave Minneapolis, MN 55413 United States +1 612 378 9882 |
With cool 1940's decor, the Modern looks anything but modern. A younger, hip crowd flocks here for the New England-style pot roast, pan-roasted chicken breasts with garlic mashed potatoes, black bean soup with chopped jalapeno or fried catfish with polenta. Salads, pasta dishes, burgers and sandwiches are also featured. Desserts include a chocolate tart or fresh plum and peach crisp topped with vanilla ice cream. On weekends, the Modern opens early and serves the type of breakfast your mom may have whipped up. Review © 2007, Wcities |
