Where Food & Art Collide |
901 Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55403 United States +1 612 767 6978 http://www.chambersminneapolis... |
This David Rockwell designed restaurant is a far cry from his Broadway set designs on Hairspray and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but judging by the popularity, it seems to be well accepted. Boasting two floors atop the prestigious Chambers Minneapolis Hotel, world renowned Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has laid out a unique Asian-inspired menu with items including Mahi-Mahi with Malaysian Chili Sauce, Atlantic Salmon with celery root puree, as well as the classic favorite of Black Pepper Sirloin Steak. The restaurant is accentuated by renowed pieces of art from Damien Hurst and others making this a virtual hotspot for gastronome's and art-lovers alike. For a truly exceptional dining experience, be sure to reserve the chef's table. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gem to be Discovered |
448 University Ave W Minneapolis, MN 55103 United States +1 651 222 5577 |
The first Cambodian restaurant in the Twin Cities, this is a gem waiting to be discovered. For those who have not yet experienced Cambodian cuisine, you are missing something special. Albums featuring colored photographs of most dishes sit on the tables to make ordering easy. Virtually fat free, the cuisine is tangy, fresh and lean. Start with an appetizer of spring rolls stuffed with shrimp, pork, bean sprouts and fresh herbs. The papaya salad, spiked with red pepper, is hot and cool. The lean beef stir-fry is spicy and moist. A rice-flour crepe, folded omelet-style around ground pork, shrimp, cucumber slices and bean sprouts wrapped in cool lettuce and dipped in a rich peanut sauce, is a wonderful blend of flavors and textures. Most desserts involve a combination of fresh fruit, rice and coconut. Beverages include a variety of tea, both hot and iced, mineral water and soft drinks. The prices are really inexpensive too! Fine Ethnic Restaurant |
3001 Hennepin Ave S Calhoun Square Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 827 1606 http://www.chiangmaithai.com/ |
This is the hip Uptown version of an authentic Thai restaurant, quite elegant and romantic. Start with fried spring rolls stuffed with pork, deep-fried chicken drummies or fried calamari rings in tempura batter. Next, try a green papaya salad or the hot-and-sour chicken noodle soup. Grilled chicken breasts marinated in tangy citrus sauce or beef tenderloin with distinctive Thai flavoring are excellent entrée choices. Stir-fries and rice dishes are made-to-order tossed together from a selection of mix and match ingredients. Choose from combinations of vegetables, hot peppers, tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, catfish and squid prepared in your choice of sauces ranging from very mild to crazy hot. Top it off with coconut and green-tea ice cream or sticky rice with Thai custard. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Make the scene in the hot zone |
2916 Hennepin Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 824 7878 http://www.chinolatino.com/ |
This joint in artsy Uptown is usually wall-to-wall people, noisy and busy. Chino Latino is about dressing well, being current and making the scene. Look for the sparkly glitter marquee. If you can, stake out a large round, comfortable booth or group size table. The food and drink is as chic as the crowd. The menu features dishes from south of the border and Asia with many selections being hot and spicy. Choose from tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, Sweet and Sour Chicken, spring rolls stuffed with shrimp, chicken or noodles, shrimp and chicken curries, or Thai Curry Beef. The bar serves Japanese Saki, wines from France, Italy and Germany along with domestic vintages. The beer list is one of the best in town and cocktails are made with 'top shelf' liquors. Of course, soft drinks and fruit juices are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

White linens and candles |
1346 LaSalle Ave Minneapolis, MN 55403 United States +1 612 332 6928 |
Large carved statues of elephants and traditional Thai figures decorate this authentic restaurant. White linens and candles adorn the tables. The menu is extensive, offering tasty appetizers and hot, spicy entrees. The fried calamari appetizer easily serves four. The grilled shrimp or sa bai nang (fried noodle balls filled with pork, shrimp and beef) will start your meal with a bang. Entrees are prepared with the meat or seafood of your choice and range from mild to 'on fire.' The pad ped ta lay features abundant portions of shrimp, scallops, crab, and mussels, all stir-fried with tomatoes in a spicy curry sauce. The chicken with tomato and cabbage in a coconut cream sauce is a little tamer. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Excellent food and service |
475 Saint Peter Street Minneapolis, MN 55102 United States +1 651 290 0067 |
Without a doubt, the best Thai restaurant in the Twin Cities makes up what it lacks in decor with excellent food and service. The menu features traditional Thai cuisine with tastes from hot to scorching. The pad Thai, a classic stir fry with green onions, bean sprouts, and rice noodles topped with cooked egg and roasted peanuts, and the deep fried trout are especially popular. The spring rolls, consisting of barbequed pork, shrimp, cellophane noodles and shredded carrots served with a hot, spicy peanut sauce, should not be missed. The lunchtime buffet is a big draw. 'Thai it, you'll like it.' |
118 North 4th St Minneapolis, MN 55401 United States +1 612 373 0840 http://www.sawatdee.com/ |
This Warehouse District eatery is a favorite among the lunch and after work crowd along with those attending downtown events. The spicy, curried menu is a true winner and sure to please. The marinated pork or chicken served with spicy peanut curry sauce and pickled cucumbers or spring rolls are excellent starters. Try the stir-fry of sweet onions, mushrooms and hot peppers with chicken, pork, beef or shrimp. The Rama Thai, chicken or shrimp covered with peanut curry sauce, or the spicy noodle dish of Thai basil, onion, tomatoes and chicken, pork or shrimp are menu highlights. Sawatdee serves a fine selection of wine and beer, including superb Thai brews. Cocktails and soft drinks are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |
