Reminiscent of 'Northern Exposure' |
9854 Norma Lane I-94 and Woodbury Dr Minneapolis, MN 55125 United States +1 651 714 2035 |
Wish you were at a cozy cabin in Northern Minnesota, but cannot get away? Head to this quaint little cabin for an experience that will remind you of the TV show "Northern Exposure." The exposed wood, a moose head and a giant stone fireplace provide that cabin atmosphere. The only thing missing from the "up north experience" is the distant call of a loon. The all-American menu includes burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, ribs and steak. The steaks and burgers have a charcoal flavor reminiscent of a backyard grill. Enjoy a libation with your meal if you like. An updated Miss Kitty's |
1300 Lagoon St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 825 2525 http://www.barabilene.com/ |
This restaurant puts the cosmopolitan into the west. Head here for an upscale repast in a relaxed atmosphere, where the service is excellent and the food is imaginative. Longhorn skulls, cowhide seats, lariats, and black-and-white westerns on the multiple TVs state the theme. Great appetizers, happy hour specials, and people watching make it a favorite among Minneapolis patrons. The menu is American Southwest featuring mesquite-grilled salmon and beef. Try the chili powder-seared catfish, an excellent tamale, pasta or a burger and fries. Appetizers are the size of Texas. Leave room for a baked apple tostada heaped with cinnamon ice cream and rum caramel sauce. The bar boasts 100 tequilas and 25 flavored margaritas. You can also try a Mexican beer, cocktail or soft drink. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A bit of Lebanon for your senses |
1385 Robert St South Minneapolis, MN 55118 United States +1 651 457 4886 |
This is some Lebanese cooking you will not soon forget. Try the falalfel, baba ghanoush (a tangy dip made from eggplant and tahina), kibbe (chewy nuggets of beef or lamb), boorek (egg rolls) shamboorek (meat-stuffed egg rolls) hummus (served as a dip, made from chick peas), grilled chicken and beef or lamb kebabs. Do not rush off after your meal on Friday or Saturday night. Stay and enjoy the restaurant's belly dancers, complete with traditional dress and music. Review © 2007, Wcities |

All the German mainstays are here, from wiener schnitzel to hossenpfeiffer, Apple strudel to imported beer. Everything is hearty and filling. Entrees range from USD9-USD16. Come in the summer and enjoy the enclosed beer garden, open until 1am. Dining is available outside during regular dining room hours. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This trendy cafe recreates the atmosphere of a 1950s Havana sizzling nightclub. Inside, it's a vision of red carpeting, huge flower sprays, comfortable velveteen chairs and luscious curtains. The dazzling appetizers attract the after-work crowd. The lamb shank, slow cooked shredded beef and seafood dishes are especially satisfying. Be sure to try the grilled tuna and fried yucca. Entertainment on a plate |
501 W. 78th Street Minneapolis, MN 55317 United States +1 952 934 1525 http://www.chanhassentheatres.com |
This 90,000 square foot entertainment center was once a cornfield. With the entrepreneurship of Herb and Carol Bloomberg, it is now a thriving dinner theater destination. Apart from the main dinner theatre, there are two other theaters, the Fireside and the Playhouse. The dinner menu has a choice of 6 entrees: salad, vegetable, rolls & butter, and coffee, tea or milk. The main attraction slated for the coming months is the West Side Story, so make sure you book in advance and get a good seat. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Down South in Great Portions |
695 Grand Ave Minneapolis, MN 55105 United States +1 651 222 7345 |
This is one of the hottest spots on the Grand Avenue stretch of hot spots. The large round-about bar is fun to sit at – catch a bit of the street scene through large windows or just watch the little train go around the top of the bar. The dining area is split up into varying levels of nooks and alcoves. The menu is righteous southern fare, dominated by fried and barbecued offerings with varying degrees of success. You can get a monstrous combo platter of ribs and chicken or chops, or lighten up with chicken-fried steak, jambalaya, or just plain red beans and rice. A large selection of sandwiches and burgers is offered for the less hearty. Sunday brunch is a traditional affair with smoked meats, cornbread stuffing and more. The bar serves a vast array of domestic and import beers, liqueurs, and cocktails. The large space fills up quickly any night of the week, but especially on the weekends. Parking is scarce - good luck. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Blues and jazz are hot |
3001 Hennepin Ave Calhoun Square at Lake St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 822 9900 http://www.famousdaves.com |
The blues and jazz are as hot and sweet as the tangy ribs served up by Famous Dave. Local blues bands are featured almost daily and national acts can be found on stage several nights a month. The sound of the EL train going over combined with the decor of exposed brick and signs depicting famous Chicago streets make you feel as if you are in one of the Windy City's famous clubs. The pork and beef ribs slathered with Dave's award-winning sauce are messy but a joy to devour by the plateful. Can't get enough? Take home a bucket of ribs for late night snacking. Other BBQ items and all the normal picnic side dishes are featured on the menu. Wash them down with cold brew or any of your favorite beverages. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Boisterous German beer garden |
2300 University Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55418 United States +1 612 781 3860 http://www.gasthofzg.com/ |
An authentic, boisterous German beer garden awaits behind the large wooden doors. Leaded-glass windows, Tiffany-style lamps, elaborately painted walls and the high, beamed ceiling lend an old world atmosphere. Dine to the tunes of the strolling accordionists. The veal in mushroom wine gravy served with bread dumplings and vegetables or a thick smoked pork chop served with potato salad and sauerkraut, topped off with a side of red cabbage, is true German fare. Traditional German-style rabbit marinated and braised in a sweet and sour sauce, bratwurst, sauerbraten aspic, Polish sausage and Weiner Schnitzel are other menu highlights. For dessert, do not pass up the apple strudel. If beer is not your idea of a thirst quencher, German and other imported wines, cocktails and soft drinks are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Stillwater tradition |
102 Second St N (Myrtle Street) Minneapolis, MN 55082 United States +1 651 439 1100 http://www.lowellinn.com/ |
This Stillwater landmark has been a dining tradition for more than 70 years. Fortunately, the lackluster menus of the last decade have been spiced up while still retaining the old favorites. Each room has a different menu under Chef Mitch Omer. The George Washington Room features white linens, fine china, crystal and silver service. The Matterhorn room sports a Swiss motif. The fondue (USD60 per person in the Matterhorn) includes appetizers, sherry and Grapes Devonshire for dessert. For the uninitiated, it consists of raw prime beef and coconut-crusted shrimp, which you skewer on a long stick and cook in hot oil at your table. Two bottles of wine are included with this dining experience. In the George Washington room, meals range from USD28-USD35, and include sides of mashed potatoes, vegetables, soup, salad and fruit. Entrees include roast duck breast and pan-fried walleye. For lunch, hot sandwiches, pasta and salads are the rule. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nostalgic Train Ride Dining Experience |
601 N Main St Minneapolis, MN 55082 United States +1 651 430 3000 / +1 800 992 6100 http://www.minnesotazephyr.com |
Each ticket for this nostalgic trip includes a five-course dinner, entertainment and the train ride, which takes about three and a half hours. Board at the historic Stillwater Depot. The Grand Dome car offers the best views, but all of the cars are luxurious and restored to perfection. Feel free to tour the train during the run. The run follows the beautiful St. Croix River for a short way, then west through the rolling countryside, and returns along the same track. The daytime trips (noon departure) offer great views, but the evening trips (7:30p, Su 6p) may be the most romantic and dramatic. Attire is semi formal, so look your best and enjoy this elegant setting. The strolling Zephyr Cabaret will serenade you with hits of the 1940s and 1950s in period costume. A gourmet meal is served on white linen-clad tables with fine china service, by candlelight on the evening ride. Entrees are chosen at the time of ticket purchase. Courses include appetizer, a fresh crisp salad, a delicious soup du jour, your choice of three entrees and a delectable dessert to complete your repast. Call well in advance to secure your chosen date and time, especially around the Christmas holiday season. Ticket prices do not include tax, gratuity and beverages. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In spirit with its unusual name, the extraordinary theme of the restaurant evokes wonder. The dining area is partitioned into separate rooms that are designed to resemble sections of a newspaper. The front page of the newspapers adorns the walls of the restaurant. This upscale restaurant is a favorite celebrity hangout. The food served here is also par excellence. This is a casual but upscale family restaurant where you can stuff your napkin into the front of your shirt and enjoy yourself. The dining room is loaded with old photos and old fashioned gadgets, and no one cares if the kids are a bit boisterous. The menu offers spaghetti, spaghetti and more spaghetti. Order it with plain tomato sauce or mushrooms and meatballs. If that isn't for you, try the meat or vegetarian lasagna or fettuccine and thick, creamy sauce. Most entrees are served with soup or salad, bread, ice cream and pop, iced tea or milk. Beer and wine are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |
