Try out the strange creations of Azia like Grilled Pork with Apple Plum Chutney and the Vietnamese Coconut Curry. Here, you fill out your own order and submit it to the kitchen. Happily, you don't have to run your own food. American breakfast classics abound, and there is also as sizable lunch menu. An updated Miss Kitty's |
1300 Lagoon St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 825 2525 http://www.barabilene.com/ mgmt@barabilene.com |
This restaurant puts the cosmopolitan into the west. Head here for an upscale repast in a relaxed atmosphere, where the service is excellent and the food is imaginative. Longhorn skulls, cowhide seats, lariats, and black-and-white westerns on the multiple TVs state the theme. Great appetizers, happy hour specials, and people watching make it a favorite among Minneapolis patrons. The menu is American Southwest featuring mesquite-grilled salmon and beef. Try the chili powder-seared catfish, an excellent tamale, pasta or a burger and fries. Appetizers are the size of Texas. Leave room for a baked apple tostada heaped with cinnamon ice cream and rum caramel sauce. The bar boasts 100 tequilas and 25 flavored margaritas. You can also try a Mexican beer, cocktail or soft drink. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Take a walk into this whimsically painted cornerstone of Eat Street, and it should satisfy your craving for Bavaria. Erich, the owner and operator for 18 years, still makes his own fresh bratwurst. All the German mainstays are here, from wiener schnitzel to hossenpfeiffer, Apple strudel to imported beer. Everything is hearty and filling. Entrees range from USD9-USD16. Come in the summer and enjoy the enclosed beer garden, open until 1am. Dining is available outside during regular dining room hours. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trendy fun spot |
810 West Lake St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 825 3737 http://www.bryantlakebowl.com info@bryantlakebowl.com |
Located on the fringe of Uptown, the crowd here is trendy, young, and friendly. The eight wooden lanes are virtual antiques dating back to the 1960s, but well maintained. Serious bowlers don't frequent the joint, just those looking for a good time and great food. Not many bowling establishments serve up juicy (not greasy) burgers, deli-style sandwiches, fancy salads, soups and vegetarian delights. There are breakfast burritos, scrambled eggs, sausage and pancakes for those early risers. The beer and wine list is as long as your arm and features only the best domestic and imported names. Cabaret theater in a bowling alley |
810 West Lake St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 825 8949 info@bryantlakebowl.com |
You won't find thought-provoking, highbrow theater here; after all, it's in the same facility as a bowling alley that's more of a hip hangout than a scheduled stop for the pro bowler. Gracing the stage will be anything from rock bands to drag queens strutting their stuff. The performances are high energy, campy and even comic. The crowd is young, laid back and diverse. The food is delicious and fits well with a clubby setting. The menu features vegetarian fare, as well as burgers, sandwiches, salads and soups. It is also legendary as a great morning-after breakfast stop. Show times vary with act. Contact the theater for performances and times. After the show, be sure to catch the action at the Bryant-Lake Bowl and perhaps roll a couple of games. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Coffee Culture at Its Finest |
708 W 22nd Street Minneapolis, MN 55405 United States +1 612 872 0911 |
It is perhaps more accurate to say this is simply an artistic place, rather than an art gallery, though years of interesting and highly-caffeinated locals have certainly left their mark on every available space. The coffee actually is quite good, as is the selection of local sodas and pastries. What sets this comfortable space apart is a clientèle representing a slice of Minneapolis Coffee Culture, perhaps at it's finest. It remains a place full of stories and antics. Be careful on the stairs down to the bathroom if you've just been at the bar next door. -Marie Richie Review © 2007, Wcities |

Uptown's Snazziest Restaurant |
1320 W Lake St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 825 2222 http://www.campiello.damico.co... |
Uptown's snazziest restaurant is yet another feather in the cap of the D'Amico culinary empire. The animated, noisy dining room is flanked by a popular martini bar and a show kitchen. The place is constantly packed so call ahead. This upscale, casual restaurant specializes in pastas, pizzas, poultry and salads. The crispy cracker crust pizza baked in the oak-fired oven is a tremendous appetizer. The rotisserie chicken and pork loin, along with the grilled veal tenderloin are superb entrees. The Crème Brulee and Ricotta Almond Strudel make for a perfect ending. Choose from the impressive list of martinis, imported beer or wide selection of wine. A noteworthy brunch is served on Sundays. A rowdy crowd |
105 West Lake St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 827 4765 |
This is not a place to bring your date, but you are sure to meet some interesting characters. Rowdy crowds, pay-per-view events and televisions blaring different sports games are the main draw. Though there is an outdoor patio, the noisy Lake Street traffic may mean it is actually quieter inside the bar.The food is decent and the menu gravitates to sports bar grub. Beer is always flowing and the clientele likes to chase it down with a shot or two. Do not ask for wine, the regulars do not drink it. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This is the hip Uptown version of an authentic Thai restaurant, quite elegant and romantic. Start with fried spring rolls stuffed with pork, deep-fried chicken drummies or fried calamari rings in tempura batter. Next, try a green papaya salad or the hot-and-sour chicken noodle soup. Grilled chicken breasts marinated in tangy citrus sauce or beef tenderloin with distinctive Thai flavoring are excellent entrée choices. Stir-fries and rice dishes are made-to-order tossed together from a selection of mix and match ingredients. Choose from combinations of vegetables, hot peppers, tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, catfish and squid prepared in your choice of sauces ranging from very mild to crazy hot. Make the scene in the hot zone |
2916 Hennepin Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 824 7878 http://www.chinolatino.com/ |
This joint in artsy Uptown is usually wall-to-wall people, noisy and busy. Chino Latino is about dressing well, being current and making the scene. Look for the sparkly glitter marquee. If you can, stake out a large round, comfortable booth or group size table. The food and drink is as chic as the crowd. The menu features dishes from south of the border and Asia with many selections being hot and spicy. Choose from tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, Sweet and Sour Chicken, spring rolls stuffed with shrimp, chicken or noodles, shrimp and chicken curries, or Thai Curry Beef. The bar serves Japanese Saki, wines from France, Italy and Germany along with domestic vintages. The beer list is one of the best in town and cocktails are made with 'top shelf' liquors. Of course, soft drinks and fruit juices are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Blues and jazz are hot |
3001 Hennepin Ave Calhoun Square at Lake St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 822 9900 http://www.famousdaves.com calhoun@famousdaves.com |
The blues and jazz are as hot and sweet as the tangy ribs served up by Famous Dave. Local blues bands are featured almost daily and national acts can be found on stage several nights a month. The sound of the EL train going over combined with the decor of exposed brick and signs depicting famous Chicago streets make you feel as if you are in one of the Windy City's famous clubs. The pork and beef ribs slathered with Dave's award-winning sauce are messy but a joy to devour by the plateful. Can't get enough? Take home a bucket of ribs for late night snacking. Other BBQ items and all the normal picnic side dishes are featured on the menu. Wash them down with cold brew or any of your favorite beverages. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This pub draws a mixed crowd, from working stiffs to families to business folk to the artsy types that spill over from the nearby Uptown area. A very friendly staff, tabletop shuffleboard and an antique jukebox, featuring a diverse selection of tunes, all add up to a casual atmosphere. The food is ranked way above most pub grub. Order the usual burgers or sandwiches if you please, but why not indulge? Try a Cuban salad or spicy pork sandwich or try a chicken enchilada or BLT with zucchini fries and creamy cole slaw. Be sure to leave room for dessert; the Banana Splitsville is an ice cream lover's delight. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For over a decade, this vivacious Uptown bistro has been one of the area's most appealing restaurants. The modest and reasonably priced menu changes weekly, normally offering two or three appetizers, soup, salad and four entrees. Start with an appetizer of ravioli filled with a puree of orange squash or prosciutto wrapped asparagus with potato gnocchi. Choose an entree of crab cakes with red pepper aioli and vegetable sauté or grilled New York strip steak with morel mushrooms and cabernet mashed potatoes. For dessert try a chocolate tart, caramel topped cheesecake or a simple fruit crisp. The wine list is, of course, quite extensive. The selection of imported beer is exceptional.
