Quaint little café |
128 Cleveland Ave North Minneapolis, MN 55104 United States +1 651 645 4128 http://www.128cafe.net/ |
The 128 Café, with its varnished pine paneling and cozy seating, has a stylish romantic charm, to which the white linen tablecloths and flower vases add a touch of elegance. The simple menu features very tasty offerings. The sauteed chicken breast with charred tomato and basil salsa or the vegetarian entree of grilled red peppers, asparagus, zucchini, yellow squash and shiitake mushrooms served over pasta are very satisfying. A side order of grilled or broiled shrimp complements any dish. Top off your meal with a chocolate chunk brownie a la mode with caramelized pecans and chocolate sauce. A selection of wines, beers, fruit juices, coffees, teas and mineral waters are served. Brunch is offered on Sundays from 10am-2pm. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Authentic Kurdish restaurant |
544 Saint Peter St Minneapolis, MN 55102 United States +1 651 602 9964 |
Babani's claims to be the first authentic Kurdish restaurant in the United States. The unfamiliar menu items may keep some away, but once you try it, you will definitely come back. The richly aromatic cuisine is prepared using fresh vegetables and organic herbs and spices. The Kurdish chicken soup, dowjic ($3.50 cup/$6.50 bowl), and tabbouleh ($3.50/$6.25) are nicely complimented by naska nan wa paneer ($3.50/$6.95), an addicting, delicious house-baked bread. For those looking for a taste bud-tingling entrée, don't miss the kubay sawar ($11.75), ground beef stuffed in fried wheat dumplings, or chicken tawa, chicken layered with potato, green pepper, onion and dried lemon. Prices are reasonable and portions are enormous. Review © 2007, Wcities |

An updated Miss Kitty's |
1300 Lagoon St Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 825 2525 http://www.barabilene.com/ |
This restaurant puts the cosmopolitan into the west. Head here for an upscale repast in a relaxed atmosphere, where the service is excellent and the food is imaginative. Longhorn skulls, cowhide seats, lariats, and black-and-white westerns on the multiple TVs state the theme. Great appetizers, happy hour specials, and people watching make it a favorite among Minneapolis patrons. The menu is American Southwest featuring mesquite-grilled salmon and beef. Try the chili powder-seared catfish, an excellent tamale, pasta or a burger and fries. Appetizers are the size of Texas. Leave room for a baked apple tostada heaped with cinnamon ice cream and rum caramel sauce. The bar boasts 100 tequilas and 25 flavored margaritas. You can also try a Mexican beer, cocktail or soft drink. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cozy atmosphere |
720 Grand Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55105 United States +1 651 290 2085 |
Stepping into the light and airy dining room, you will find a calm escape in this laid back restaurant in a converted home in the heart of bustling Grand Avenue. A crusty French bread with black olives sautéed in olive oil, garlic and cayenne is your appetizer. Skip the usual garden salad; opt for artichoke hearts and goat cheese scattered over a plate of baby greens. Moroccan stews are the highlight of the small, but spicy and exotic menu. The lamb, wild mushrooms, beans and raisins stew is superb. For the vegetarian, it is hard to pass on the bean and lentil stew with apricots and asparagus, served with mint and dill sauce. Dessert can be as simple as a plate of fresh, organic dates or a creme caramel with lots of burnt-sugar syrup. This place is closed on tuesdays. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Appetizing, reasonably priced and full of surprises, this cheerful neighborhood restaurant is an excellent place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The atmosphere has an old-fashioned "take a load off and sit a spell" feel about it. The menu is on a blackboard as you enter, then place your order at the counter. The menu consists of mostly vegetarian and organic fare. Soup, salads, sandwiches, pasta and pizza are the mainstays. Desserts are too good to pass up, so save room. Juices, soft drinks and coffee are served. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Serene & Stylish Getaway |
300 1st Ave N Minneapolis, MN 55401 United States +1 612 342 9230 http://www.cafebrenda.com |
This cafe is a serene and stylish getaway for vegetarians and fish lovers. The high ceilings, floral carpeting and pale peach walls are nicely accented with green plants and comfortable seating. The restaurant features pleasant views of the Warehouse District. Owner and chef Brenda Langton's nouvelle cuisine showcases organic ingredients and eschews red meat in favor of chicken, freshwater fish and an occasional seafood selection. The idea of sugar-free desserts does not sound tasty but you are in for a surprise. The chocolate caramel tart is a superb ending to a delicious meal. Brenda's features an excellent selection of imported beers and wines. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine Ethnic Restaurant |
3001 Hennepin Ave S Calhoun Square Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States +1 612 827 1606 http://www.chiangmaithai.com/ |
This is the hip Uptown version of an authentic Thai restaurant, quite elegant and romantic. Start with fried spring rolls stuffed with pork, deep-fried chicken drummies or fried calamari rings in tempura batter. Next, try a green papaya salad or the hot-and-sour chicken noodle soup. Grilled chicken breasts marinated in tangy citrus sauce or beef tenderloin with distinctive Thai flavoring are excellent entrée choices. Stir-fries and rice dishes are made-to-order tossed together from a selection of mix and match ingredients. Choose from combinations of vegetables, hot peppers, tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, catfish and squid prepared in your choice of sauces ranging from very mild to crazy hot. Top it off with coconut and green-tea ice cream or sticky rice with Thai custard. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bright and cheery |
212 East Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55414 United States +1 612 623 7999 |
One visit and you will be glad you took the advice of the restaurant with the somewhat odd-sounding name. This small pizzeria is bright and cheery with superb service. The pizza is sans meat, but who needs it when you can tantalize the taste buds with artichoke hearts, roasted garlic parmesan and Portobello mushrooms? Both the pizzas and salads are sold by the pound. Normally, four vegetarian combo pizzas are available each day so if you can't make up your mind, ask for a small slice of each. For dessert, try the huge, Double Chocolate Brownies or ice cream. A soft drink, beer or wine will round out your veggie feast. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Young, hip crowd |
329 13th Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55413 United States +1 612 623 4211 |
This is a cross between a traditional supper club and chic nightclub. It appeals to the young, hip crowd yet draws guests from all lifestyles. With cool jazz piped through the roomy dining area, darkly painted walls and somewhat subdued lighting, there's a certain funky feel to place. The menu features succulent steaks, fresh fish and seafood, poultry and vegetarian entrees. The halibut is fresh, moist and flaky, the steaks are thick and juicy and the chicken is lip-smacking good. Shrimp, crab or chicken pasta dishes are also on the menu. All entrees are served with salad, potato or vegetables and rolls. Shrimp cocktail or crab cakes will start you off and cheesecake or Key lime pie will provide the finishing touch. Review © 2007, Wcities |

You will find an impressive choice of the usual American fare here, plus other goodies to suit even the most curious of palates. Order up a great burger topped with unusual cheeses. For dinner you will find many offerings of chicken, salmon and steaks. Adjoining the restaurant is a full bar and pool hall. During the summer months, enjoy your meal outdoors on the deck. A late-night menu and Sunday brunch is also available. There is a large lot right next to Fern's, but parking is always at a premium in this popular area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Attracts a diverse crowd |
2513 Central Ave Northeast Minneapolis, MN 55418 United States +1 612 781 2627 |
Make a pilgrimage to this Middle Eastern eatery. There are a few simple tables in the deli area, but most come for take-out or groceries. Home of the self-proclaimed "biggest gyro in town," stuffed with grilled slices of beef and lamb, the pita overflows. The deli menu features vegetarian dishes along with entrees featuring chicken and veggies. The kufta, charbroiled ground-lamb patties served with salad and pita bread, is a definite favorite. The bakery boasts a great selection of Middle Eastern baked goods, such as baklava and honey cake. The grocery carries everything you will need to stock a Lebanese pantry from olives and bulk spices to cheeses and peppers. Juices, coffees, teas and soft drinks are available with your order. Great-Tasting Show |
1333 Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, MN 55403 United States +1 612 339 0540 http://www.ichiban.ca |
One could describe a dining experience here as "the best-tasting show in town." Knife blades glisten and diners "ooh" and "ahh" as they watch the chef chop and twirl his utensils while preparing the meal tableside. While watching the show is a great part of the dining experience, the food matches the show. Teppenyaki, sushi and a tempura bar are featured, and a sushi bar buffet is featured Wednesday and Sunday. The place was also voted Best Japanese Restaurant in the Twin Cities, three years in a row. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The menu features traditional Indian favorites, such as Saag Paneer and Baigan Bharta, along with a full array of breads, such as Naan and Roti. Virtually reinvents itself |
205 East Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55414 United States +1 612 617 1111 |
After moving to its new location and virtually reinventing itself, this stylish spot has proved a success. Instead of bargain basement, the seats are glossy and the booths are velvet-covered. Grunge and punk rockers are replaced with big band jazz, blues and folk music. The somewhat dreary surroundings give way to shiny, silver metallic walls and a sleek appearance. Staying the same, however, is the tasty food and excellent wine list. Burritos, salads, soups, pasta dishes, sandwiches and pizza are tasty for lunch and great to nibble on while listening to music in the evening. In the morning, it's a jolt of espresso, latte or good old strong coffee and a fresh baked pastry. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Platter-sized portions |
100 North 6th St (Butler Square) Minneapolis, MN 55403 United States +1 612 332 1600 |
Part of the D'Amico restaurant family, this is a less conventional member of the Italian culinary empire. Within walking distance of most theaters and the Target Center (basketball and concerts), L & B is a perfect spot for that pre-event meal. The menu of pizza, pasta dishes and salads is appetizing, well-prepared and the portions will have you asking for a carry home box. The chicken breast is grilled to perfection and served with fresh veggies and mashed potatoes. Meat pizza toppings are available, or load the chewy, tender crust with oven-dried tomatoes, peppers and artichoke hearts. The desserts are scrumptious, especially the chocolate trifle. Only top-shelf liquors, the finest wines and the best beers are served. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For over a decade, this vivacious Uptown bistro has been one of the area's most appealing restaurants. The modest and reasonably priced menu changes weekly, normally offering two or three appetizers, soup, salad and four entrees. Start with an appetizer of ravioli filled with a puree of orange squash or prosciutto wrapped asparagus with potato gnocchi. Choose an entree of crab cakes with red pepper aioli and vegetable sauté or grilled New York strip steak with morel mushrooms and cabernet mashed potatoes. For dessert try a chocolate tart, caramel topped cheesecake or a simple fruit crisp. The wine list is, of course, quite extensive. The selection of imported beer is exceptional. Brunch is served on the weekends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This friendly café near Powderhorn Park serves up tasty goodies and great live entertainment, offering a varied weekly schedule of poets, strolling minstrels and jazz ensembles. Local artists are allowed to display their work, adding a little color to the plain walls. Be sure to check the chalkboard for the menu and daily specials. The mostly vegetarian menu features salads, soups and breads. The overstuffed bean and rice burrito with a tossed green salad or piled turkey sandwich on homemade bread are both filling but still leave room for dessert. A breakfast of large, moist muffins, homemade pastries or vegetarian scones will get you going, especially if paired with cappuccino or good old black coffee. Juices, teas and soft drinks are also served. Review © 2007, Wcities |
