A shopper's paradise
At the corner of Highway 1 and Carmel Valley Road
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93923

+1 831 624 8886
For almost a quarter of a century this shopping center has been one of the best of its kind in all of California. With unique shops, galleries, salons, clothing stores and first-class restaurants, there is something here for every discerning shopper. The place is also surrounded by gorgeous gardens and brick walkways. You should not make a visit to Carmel without coming here. It is a great place for old-style shopping and the absence of any major department store makes it even more attractive. Credit card acceptance varies by store.

Casanova Restaurant

World-class romantic
Fifth Avenue
Between Mission and San Carlos Streets
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93921
United States
+1 831 625 0501
An old adobe house with beautiful gardens, houses one of Carmel's most romantic restaurants. Its Celebrity Room has photos of the celebrities who have dined there; the French Provencal Harvest Room has charm; the Milagro Room has a working fireplace; and, the outdoor patio has the shade of a Brazilian pepper tree. Try the Pan-seared Filet of Salmon served with pasta. The wine cellar holds more than 30,000 bottles of wine, some costing more than the average house. The restaurant regularly wins the Wine Spectator's Grand Award. With unparalleled service for tourists and locals, it is highly recommended.

Club Jalapeno

Jalapeno jelly and tofu tacos
San Carlos Street
(between Fifth and Sixth avenues)
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93923
United States
+1 831 626 1997
Some of the Oaxacan specialties on the menu at this place seem more nouveau than any California Cuisine chef's latest offering. Take, for example, the grilled fresh catch topped with a banana saute. The flavors are new to many diners, but they are traditional to certain regions of Mexico. Less adventurous eaters can stick with enchiladas, tostadas and fajitas. The wine selection is practically nil, but the selection of rare tequilas more than makes up for it. The decor strikes the right note: elegant, but not too stuffy.

Forge in the Forest Restaurant

A Romantic Getaway!
Corner of fifth Avenue and Junipero Avenue
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93921
United States
+1 831 624 2233
The Forge in the Forest Restaurant is a romantic place to go to for its 'old charm' atmosphere. The garden patio seating is beautiful and warm with heaters, fireplaces and classy bricked decor. The food is a bit too pricey for the quality but the decor and the wine bar makes up for it. The brick fire pits, copper walls and lush landscaping just add to the enticing feel. Also don't miss the desserts which are the best feature of The Forge in the Forest Restaurant. An added benefit is that it even has a menu for your four legged buddy! Yes, they love dogs and it shows.

Conservative eaters can go for a sandwich or meatloaf. Breakfast is served all day long. The decor of the restaurant is simple but not as sparse as in many delis. The funky chairs, green carpet and mood lights make for a rather Art Deco ambience. This is a casual, inexpensive place for a filling breakfast or lunch.

This is the only restaurant in the Monterey area that is right on the ocean. The inside is subdued, but it offers huge windows that are practically on the cliff. Watch sea lions, pelicans, and everything else as the waves come crashing in. The service is impeccable for the locals, tourists and wedding parties here.
