Baja Cantina

Lively Mexican joint
7166 Carmel Valley Road
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93923
United States
+1 831 625 2252
With all the vintage auto memorabilia hanging on the walls of this place, you will think you are back on a racetrack in 1910. Dine on the heated patio, which has a great view of the valley, or have an indoor feast. The place somewhat resembles a gas station, but the margaritas are dynamite and it serves up a wealth of reasonably priced Mexican dishes. There are daily specials and occasional live music out on the patio. The friendly staff attracts a wide-ranging clientele.

Pacific's Edge

Famous view and cuisine
120 Highland Drive
(in the Highlands Inn)
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93923
United States
+1 831 622 5445
The dramatic, panoramic view of Big Sur is probably this restaurant's primary claim to fame, but the cuisine and wine list have also earned a reputation among well-heeled travelers to the Monterey Peninsula. Dine on creative and contemporary dishes like Roasted Day Boat Sea Scallops or Grilled Colorado Rack of Lamb. Most of the vegetables and many seafood items are harvested just outside the hotel. The several-course prix fixe menu can be ordered with or without wine pairings. Needless to say, the ambience is elegant and exclusive; dress accordingly.

Wickets

Intimate bistro at Bernardus
415 Carmel Valley Road
(Bernardus Lodge)
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93924
United States
+1 831 658 3500
The food at this pleasant bistro is prepared under the same direction as the fine cuisine at Marinus, but the ambience is quite a bit more casual. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. The outdoor seating overlooks the croquet lawn, hence the restaurant's name. Visitors and locals dine on light California-Mediterranean fare. Try the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare for an appetizer, followed by a dish of rich Paella. A glass of Bernardus wine makes the perfect accompaniment. The place is appropriate for family dinners or for relaxed cocktailing.

Will's Fargo Dining House and Saloon

Classic western steakhouse
Carmel Valley Road
(11 Miles from Highway 1)
Monterey and Carmel, CA 93924

+1 831 659 2774
This classic western steakhouse has been serving up massive portions of meat and seafood for more than 40 years. You have the choice of dining inside amidst the turn-of-the-last-century decor, or outside on the patio. Either way, you will be able to choose exactly how you want your steak cut and cooked. The service here is dynamite. Go for the 22-ounce Porterhouse or the rack of lamb with pesto. This place includes a neat saloon, and you can even buy meat to take home.
