Not-too-expensive breakfast food |
1126 Forest Ave Monterey and Carmel, CA 93950 United States +1 831 375 8484 |
Start the morning right with a huge, heavy plate of eggs and bacon, biscuits and gravy, or Eggs Benedict. A number of variations on Eggs Benedict are also served. Prices are low to medium. At lunchtime, try one of the specials; the Sunday turkey spread is one of the best. The cafe is located in lovely Pacific Grove, within walking distance of several B&Bs and just a mile away from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Authentic British Pub |
611 Lighthouse Avenue (at Hoffman St) Monterey and Carmel, CA 93940 United States +1 831 372 5565 |
This British-style pub is small enough for an intimate date and large enough to provide a great time over a few drinks with a group of friends old or new. The truly British decor of the place gives it an authentic feel. The restaurant serves up traditional British fare and there are 16 beers on tap. With burgers named Picadilly and Trafalgar, as well as drinks called the Leprechuan and Red Silk Knickers, you cannot go wrong. Most sandwiches and burgers are around $7. The service is great. Creative, Spicy, Fun |
223 17th Street Monterey and Carmel, CA 93950 United States +1 831 372 3456 |
The flavors of coastal France, Spain and Italy are brought into play at this restaurant, serving as the inspiration and the culinary backbone for such dishes as Bouillabaisse Marseleillaise and Osso Buco Fandango. Dishes are peppery, flavorful and rich. Order a selection of tapas as an appetizer. The bill will be high, but the place encourages diners to follow the European habit of stretching dinner into a three-hour experience. The interior is warm and handsome. The glowing natural tones of light wood are used in everything from the furnishings to the ceiling to the trim on the windows. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quintessential French |
1188 Forest Avenue Monterey and Carmel, CA 93950 United States +1 831 372 5325 |
From the crocks of onion soup to the buckets of mussels with fries, this place has a menu straight out of a Parisian sidewalk cafe. The three-course prix fixe meal also is French in origin. But perhaps the most pleasant French culinary custom that this place borrows is the feeling that, even if dinner is not pricey, it should still be an enjoyable, special occasion. Cheery, festive decor, a knowledgeable husband-and-wife duo at the helm, and a renowned collection of French wines and wines by the glass help to make this place a favorite of foodies on a normal budget. Innovative Seafood |
1996 Sunset Drive Monterey and Carmel, CA 93950 United States +1 831 375 7107 |
Culinary styles from various regions of the Caribbean are brought into play on this restaurant's interesting and tempting menu. There are the Sauteed Prawns Belize, the Grilled Snapper Cancun and the Tilapia Cancun. Dishes run the gamut from grilled to sauteed to deep-fried. A selection of rich, calorie-laden desserts rounds out the menu. The interior of the restaurant is handsome and comfortable, with white linen tablecloths, dark wood furnishings and expansive windows that look out onto the ocean. Comfy, old-school pizzeria |
725 Lighthouse Avenue Monterey and Carmel, CA 93940 United States +1 831 649 1500 |
With its red awning and brick walls, this place looks like it could have been lifted out of New York or San Francisco. It is cheerful, busy and laid-back. Customers of all ages wolf down pizzas, calzones and sandwiches. A new menu of chicken pizzas caters to the quasi-healthy folks in the crowd, though all the diners seem to enjoy it. A full bar is available. This is a family-owned business and proud of it. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Ravioli, Fish, Steaks & Dessert |
208 17th Street Monterey and Carmel, CA 93950 United States +1 831 373 2416 |
A number of vegetarian choices are on the menu at this cheerful Pacific Grove dining spot. Herbivores can dine on deliciacies such as Portobello Mushroom Ravioli or Quattro Tagioni Pizza. There are quite a few meat choices (such as the elegant Basil Steak), but in general the cuisine is a bit lighter than the rich fare found at many Italian eateries. A fresh seafood specialty is featured every day. There is a limited wine and beer selection. The decor is breezy and casually upscale. There is no dress code and the service is great. See website for menu, take-out options, photos, and more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

With its stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and its delicious cuisine, Lattitudes at Lover's Point is one of Monterey's most romantic restaurants. The menu features fresh seafood and local products that have been cleverly crafted by established chef Tene Shake. Some of the signature dishes include Lobster Pot Pie, Braised Short Ribs, Parmesan Salmon, and Olde English Fish and Chips. If the tempting food and scenery isn't enough, live music is performed on Friday and Saturday with Jazz performed the rest of the week. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh Fish & Fine Wine |
701 Lighthouse Ave Monterey and Carmel, CA 93950 United States +1 831 655 3311 |
In spite of its somewhat suggestive name, this restaurant is a model of propriety. The dining room is comfortable yet sophisticated. The cream-colored walls are adorned with just a bit of artwork, but not too much. Low lights and proper white table linens add a refined touch. The specialty of the house is its ever-changing selection of fresh, locally caught fish. The wine list has won awards in the past, and the restaurant is proud to offer many of the vintages at very affordable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

New to Spanish Bay |
2700 Seventeen Mile Drive Monterey and Carmel, CA 93953 United States +1 831 647 7490 |
It is easy to guess what this restaurant's focus is after you learn that it is the namesake of a famed Italian winemaker. Do not visit for a good glass of porter. Instead, select from the impressive list of rare and expensive wines. The Tuscan-inspired cuisine is a treat with or without wine. Start with Cacciucco alla Livornese, a tangy seafood soup seasoned with saffron, and move on to the cheese-stuffed Cannelloni al Forno. Almost all of the decadent desserts have been thoroughly soaked in liquor. The restaurant is handsome, dignified and graceful, perfectly conducive to either hand-holding or deal-closing. The menu at the Red House Cafe is simple yet selective and American with an interesting European twist. The place is well lit and a delightful experience on a sunny day. Breakfast is only served on weekends. The menu available here is very dynamic and changes often according to market and seasonal availability giving the patron the freshest options. If you want a fine dining experience which is easy on your pockets as well, check this place out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Contemporary Pacific Basin cuisine |
2700 Seventeen Mile Drive (The Inn at Spanish Bay) Monterey and Carmel, CA 93953 United States |
Hawaiian super-chef Roy Yamaguchi brings his signature cuisine to the Monterey Peninsula. While California Cuisine is nothing new to foodies, Roy's mixture of ancient Asian cooking traditions and cutting-edge Pacific Rim techniques can make even jaded palates take notice. Try Slow-roasted Mongolian Pork Tenderloin, Steamed Hawaiian Onaga or Crispy Pumpkin Wontons. Accompany the meal with a red wine from Roy's own label. Relax in sophisticated surroundings, attended by an expert server. You will understand why Roy's is an island treat and a new mainland favorite. Review © 2007, Wcities |
