A non-profit organization with institutes around the world, this cultural centre's mission is to promote the German language and culture, and to strengthen cultural ties. With that purpose in mind, the Montreal centre, located in the Latin Quarter, has held countless exhibitions, seminars, art openings, festivals, poetry readings and workshops since opening its doors in 1962. The institute's information centre is a repository for more than 10,000 books, videos, audiocassettes, slides, magazines, newspapers and computer software; all are available to the general public.
