Old and new Bavaria |
Mariahilfplatz 4 Munich, Bayern 81541 Germany +49 89 458440 |
Centrally located on Mariahilf Platz, but nevertheless a little off the beaten track and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Blattl's Hotel Altmünchen makes an ideal base for exploring the city on foot or by public transport. The emphasis here is on Bavarian lifestyle: the decor bears a strong, southern German stamp and the staff will leave you in no doubt about where you are. Nevertheless, standards are international class and are a wonderful example of the 'new Bavarian outlook' (encouraged by the government) of Laptop and Lederhosen. Even the service has given up traditional Munich grumpiness in exchange for a friendly, helpful attitude. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The facilities offered by this hotel are above average for its price range. Fairly centrally located, with excellent public transport facilities on the doorstep, it is situated in a peaceful spot on the idyllic Au am Mariahilfplatz, close to the River Isar. Given the hotel's position and quality, prices are relatively modest. The rooms are cosy and fitted to a high standard, the service is attentive and friendly, and every effort is made to convey a real Munich atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simply said, the YMCA is a good and cheap alternative for anyone who is open to meeting other young people and making friends. The rooms are simple, with shared showers and toilets. Rosenheimer Straße 15 Munich, Bayern 81667 Germany +49 89 4 8040 http://www.hilton.com |
This hotel is located in the buzzing Haidhausen district, known for its pubs and cultural life. The Gasteig cultural centre - home to the Philharmonie concert house and city library - is next-door. Although it is situated on a main road, the windows of this eighties building are of course sound-proofed, though many of them face the rear anyway. Very good service and a superior interior with a pleasant lobby make this a good top-end choice. Two hotel restaurants serve Bavarian and international cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Luxury exemplified |
Bayerstrasse 12 Munich, Bavaria 80335 Germany +49 89 59 9480 http://www.accorhotels.com |
Don't let the exterior of this hotel with 396 rooms fool you. The property may stand on the site of the Munich Post Office and does have a 19th Century look, but the hotel has enough technology built into it to fascinate the most demanding gadget lover! One can browse the net using Wi-fi in the minimalist yet comfortable rooms, or head down to the solarium instead of catching the afternoon sun. But it's not just the gadget geeks the hotel caters to. The fitness centre and the sauna are a big hit with all visitors and so is the heated pool. Gourmet lovers can enjoy the food at one of the restaurants, or party at the discotheque. The Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost Munchen also caters to the business fraternity and offers a self service business center and various conference rooms. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The wonderful beer garden, surrounded by old chestnut trees, is a great place to relax in the summer. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Family business |
Herzog-Wilhelm-Straße 23 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany +49 89 23 0360 http://www.hotel-herzog-wilhel... |
Despite being in a lively part of town, this hotel is situated on a quiet side street, the city centre being only a short walk away. Hotel Herzog Wilhelm has been in the Farngruber family for three generations and the owners do their best to maintain its long-standing tradition. In general, the hotel is simply furnished and the standard is acceptable for a mid-range hotel. It was renovated in the 1970s, so the hotel's long tradition is not always immediately obvious. It is, however, noticeable in the service, which is as friendly and accommodating as of old. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A comfortable stay in Schwabing |
Hohenzollernstraße 9 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80801 Germany +49 89 39 8001 |
Centrally located in the Schwabing area, Hotel International München is a bed and breakfast establishment with an especially comfortable feel. The clientele consists mainly of business people and weekend visitors. The service is unobtrusive and efficient. Because many of the rooms overlook the garden, they are fairly quiet, despite being in such a central position. You only have to step out of the front door and you are right on Hohenzollernstraße, where you will find everything you could possibly need. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This hotel is really close to the main train station, meaning that it can be noisy, but it does provide a very good base from which to discover the city by foot. Pleasant, comfortable and decorated in typical Bavarian style, the rooms were recently renovated and most have a bath, TV and modem connections. In the lobby you can surf the Net or have a few drinks at the bar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The piano bar, function rooms and restaurant all boast wonderful views of the Stachus and city centre. Chef Martin Bräuer has recently been voted the best hotel chef in Germany. A small and friendly hotel with all creature comforts. The bathrooms are luxurious, the rooms pleasantly decorated. An extensive breakfast buffet in an art deco style breakfast room awaits guests in the morning, while a rustic hotel bar is open in the evenings for all those who don't want to throw themselves into the city's nightlife. The location between the university and the museum quarter is ideal for anyone interested in culture; Schwabing is also not far away. Located to the north of the main station, Hotel Ludwig is not particularly quiet, but it is very easy to reach and is a good starting point for exploring Munich, with Karlsplatz (Stachus) and the town centre just a few minutes walk away. The hotel itself is a good option for guests looking for decent accommodation, which won't break the bank. The rooms are admittedly small, as in many city-centre hotels, but they are pleasantly decorated and well-furnished. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A large, modern hotel, in a central location close to the Hauptbahnhof (main station), the pedestrian shopping area around Karlsplatz (Stachus), the Deutsches Theater and numerous cinemas. The lobby is sumptuous; there is also a piano bar and the rooms are bright, well-furnished and welcoming. The management is professional, service is good and the atmosphere is pleasant. The location close to the station is not exactly peaceful, but many would consider lively surroundings an advantage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A modern, medium-sized hotel in the higher price bracket, well furnished and located close to the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). Its position is not exactly quiet, but on the other hand, the surroundings are lively and the city centre, as well as most of the city's major attractions, are accessible on foot. Central location |
Leopoldstraße 120 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany http://www.mercure.com |
This bed and breakfast hotel on the northern outskirts of Schwabing is easily accessible from the motorway, though still only a short distance from the colourful Schwabing district. A modern building, all the glass and steel gives it a bright and uplifting feel, as does the interior which, although comfortable, tends towards understatement. The rooms are in a similar vein, being spacious, airy and equipped to high standards. The service is spot on: the staff are always at hand but at the same time discreet. Review © 2007, Wcities |

With its seventies interior, this hotel wouldn't have won many fans in the eighties and nineties, but the 'retro' look is currently very in. The standard of the rooms is above average for this price category: all rooms are equipped with a telephone, mini-bar, WC, bath or shower and sound-proof windows (Schillerstraße is not the quietest of streets). Located in a traditional Bavarian village in the lush River Isar valley, this is a place to come if you fancy some peace and quiet. Despite being some way out of the city, this hotel is far from being cut-off, as the S-Bahn railway gets you to the city centre, airport and exhibition centre easily. The pleasant atmosphere in the hotel can be put down to several factors. Firstly, the hotel's interior is traditionally Bavarian (with a few contemporary influences) and marvellously intricate in its detail throughout. Secondly, the service is exceptional, providing a personal and courteous service to all its guests. Review © 2007, Wcities |
