Fasching Carnival season

Munich's two-month long carnival season (during which hundreds of parties and events take place) starts with the official "coronation" of the carnival Prince and Princess on the Marienplatz and reaches its peak on Shrove Tuesday with the dance of the market women on Viktualienmarkt. On Ash Wednesday locals queue in front of the Fischbrunnen fountain to rinse their purse. This, apparently, will ensure it will soon be full again.
