The popular Sommerfest (summer festival) on Coubertinplatz is similar to the Oktoberfest, but is more relaxed, less commercial and aimed at a younger crowd. It takes place every August for two weeks. Another festival takes place concurrently: the Theatron Festival, a small open-air amphitheatre near the Olympic Lake which hosts all that Munich's music scene has to offer in the way of rock and jazz. The prices are reasonable, but do not forget to bring a blanket and some warm clothes if it's cold. Admission is free. Review © 2009, Wcities
