Cigars aplenty |
Leopoldstraße 25 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3308 9292 |
A bar-cum-restaurant with a bouncer and self-assured clientele, which sells good if slightly overpriced Caribbean food. The atmosphere is very casual and the clientele is mainly made up of 'successful' business people who come here to eat and smoke a cigar (from the in-house humidor) while discussing the latest share prices. The Aficionado has large rooms, a separate bar and a pleasant terrace on the Ludwigstraße in summer. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exclusive Italian food |
Frans-Hals-Straße 3 Munich, Bayern 81479 Germany +49 89 79 9885 http://www.al-pino.de/ |
This restaurant offers high-class Italian cuisine in quiet and sunny surroundings. Although located in up-market Solln, it is not just a haven for the wealthy. You will look in vain for pizza on the menu: the main emphasis is on exquisite pasta and traditional main courses, with the fish dishes being particularly good. The wine list is excellent, although a bit pricey. In the summer, guests can sit outside on the sunny patio. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Corner shop restaurant |
St. Anna-Platz 1 Lehel Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 89 2916 2525 http://www.gandl.de/ |
This former corner shop in the heart of well-to-do Lehel will surprise you with its concept: some great creative cuisine combined with a shop selling food from all over the world. The idea has certainly proven itself and people (including many business people) come flocking here. The cooking is slightly Mediterranean with an Asian touch. The prices are even cheaper at lunch - and the house wine is excellent. A small, cosy establishment. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular haunt for the film industry |
Goethestraße 68 Ludwigsvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80336 Germany +49 89 530 9321 |
This Vietnamese restaurant is run by a former German TV presenter, so it's no surprise to find film and TV people having a get-together here. It was recently refurbished, but they haven't gone overboard on the inside, instead opting for a modern look which can seem a bit cold at times. The food, however, is great and also healthy (plenty of fresh vegetables and fish). Traditional Vietnamese cooking rather than anything new-fangled is the order of the day. Like in most Asian restaurants, the service is unassuming yet always friendly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh from the forest |
Schönfeldstraße 22 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80539 Germany +49 89 28 5909 |
This traditional Munich restaurant, founded in the 19th century, offers its clientèle a cultivated ambiance and high-quality Bavarian cuisine. The wooden-paneled rooms decorated with hunting trophies make the perfect backdrop for chef Hubert Buckl's game and meat specialties. The stuffed oxtail and the legendary mini black pudding are particularly recommended. The wine list is extensive; the service exemplary. Review © 2007, Wcities |

See and be seen |
Gärtnerplatz 1 Glockenbachviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 202 1649 http://www.cafe-interview.de |
The name of this bar says it all. Located opposite the Gärtnerplatztheater, Interview's terrace is a popular summertime meeting place for Munich's in-crowd. The staff are suitably self-confident, the prices high and the cuisine excellent (Italian, of course). The extensive breakfast menu is especially good while the wine and cocktail list is not for the faint-hearted. Meals from the lunch menu are served from 10a-5p. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Austrian cuisine in a flower garden |
Nymphenburger Straße 24 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80335 Germany +49 89 123 3830 |
The cuisine is cosmopolitan, yet still displays a definite Alpine emphasis both the wine and the food reflect clear Austrian tendencies. This is a pleasant, rather small restaurant, slightly conservative, yet exceptionally beautiful in the summer when guests can sit outside in the charming flower garden. A pianist performs several times a week. Prices are not cheap, but respectable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Viewing point and rotating restaurant |
Spiridon-Louis-Ring 7 Oympiapark Munich, Bayern 80809 Germany +49 89 3066 8585 |
At 287m the Olympic tower is the tallest building in Munich, just 10m shorter than the Eiffel tower. Built by the civic council in 1965-68 for the 1972 Olympics, it provides the best view of the city and surrounding area and in good weather it is possible to see as far as the Alps. It costs (EUR2) to go to the top, though it's just (EUR 1.25) for under-15s and free for kids under six. The Olympiaturm restaurant beneath the viewing platform is open from 11a-5p and 6:30p-midnight. As well as providing a stunning view, this rotating restaurant also serves very good dishes from around the world at reasonable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gourmet Italian |
Grillparzerstraße 1 Haidhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 470 5472 |
Customers won't find anything as simple as pizza here; Gallo Negro offers a fine selection of gourmet meat and fish dishes and a choice of home-made pasta. The selection of wine is excellent, but it doesn't come cheap. The service is efficient and friendly, and the Gallo Nero has rightly earned a reputation as being one of the best Italian eateries in town. In summer there is seating for 30 in the small garden. Steeped in tradition |
Schellingstraße 62 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80799 Germany +49 89 272 0717 http://www.osteria.de |
The tradition of this Italian restaurant is such that historical figures like Lenin and King Umberto of Italy dined here in the past. Even today, it has lost none of its VIP appeal, with stars from all over the globe coming to sample the tremendous Italian cuisine in stylish surroundings. You'll be glad to know that you won't find novelty food like Pizza Hawaii here. Service is fast, efficient and friendly; the staff are only too pleased to give advice on wines. The modern side of Munich |
Marienplatz 22 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany +49 89 230 9770 |
A glass lift takes customers from Marienplatz to the modern Metropolitan restaurant. Awaiting them is a unique Mediterranean and Asian culinary experience, plus a well-lit and comfortable bar and, best of all, a fantastic view of the city. The food is international and all dishes are extravagantly prepared, though they're not cheap. The Metropolitan is particularly well-known for its business lunches and is ideal for showing guests a different side of the city. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic Italian cuisine |
Nymphenburger Straße 150 Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany +49 (0)89 16 8548 |
Located close to Rotkreuzplatz, Pitti is one of the district's best Italian restaurants. During the day, it pampers business people with two different lunch menus every day, at(EUR 4.95 and 7.90) apiece, while it caters mostly to guests from Neuhausen in the evening. Despite the small tables by the window, this is a discrete and first class restaurant with low lights and that traditional Italian ambience. The food is excellent and satisfying (very different from many run-of-the-mill pizzerias), catering for a variety of tastes. Some examples of its fare include Spaghetti alla Marinara and Piccata Cambarola. It is advisable to make a reservation for an evening meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Rustic Italian |
Maria-Theresia-Straße 2a Haidhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 470 1010 http://www.hotel-ritzi.de |
An elegant and sophisticated place with a long bar and numerous works of art. The food is international with a definite Mediterranean influence; the fish dishes and desserts are particularly good. The trendy, nouveau riche clientele that patronise the restaurant includes numerous TV celebrities (Bogenhausen is just around the corner). The staff can sometimes appear a little too self-important for their own good however. Hot food is available from 6:30a-3p and from 6p-midnight. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A beer and a view |
Kleinhesselohe 2 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 381 6130 |
Situated on the banks of Kleinhesseloher lake in the middle of the English Garden, this restaurant with adjoining beer garden is a favourite with self-assured locals, students and tourists all year round. Guests can relax with a Mass (litre) of beer for EUR5 and watch the sun slowly disappear behind the lake. If you get peckish, you can order from the restaurant menu, although this does tend to be quite pricey. Students will be pleased to know that you can bring your own food to the beer garden. Football fans may even get lucky and see the stars of Bayern Munich football club celebrating their latest victory here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Authentic Italian |
Hohenstaufenstraße 2 (Schwabing) Munich, Bayern 80801 Germany +49 89 34 1779 |
The decor is simple and stylish, avoiding the typical Italian kitsch that so many places seem to like. The menu is similar - there is no German-style Italian food here, just traditional Italian cuisine with no fashionable experiments. It is refreshing to see how good simple cooking can be. Apart from the daily special (seasonal fare), Stella also has a weekly lunch menu. Most of Munich has discovered this gem, so booking is essential. Review © 2007, Wcities |
