Late-night munchies |
Leopoldstraße 19 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany |
Adria is a traditional meeting spot for those who get the munchies late. Orders are taken from 10:30a-3a. You can go for classics like pizza (from EUR 4.50) and pasta ( EUR 5.35) or try one of the numerous fish or meat dishes. The helpings are very big and the prices reasonable. Adria also does good business with its take-away service. For (1.75) you can get a lasagne, a slice of pizza or a vegetable bake to take away. Drinks cost (EUR 1). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Just for two |
Reichenbachstrasse 16 Munich, Bavaria 80469 Germany +49 (0)89 2307 7656 |
Cocoa addicts in Munich have found the perfect haven. Make way to this chocolate shop on Reichenbachstrasse for your chocolate fix. And if your date loves chocolates, then what could be more perfect than a visit to this place. A note of caution though, Amélie can get full as there are only two seats available. Cosy coffee house |
Pestalozzistraße 24 Glockenbachviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 2694 9249 |
This tiny cafe in the cool Bach area is loved by residents and the hip alike. Its many different types of great coffee (still served with a glass of water) and excellent homemade cakes, croissants, muffins, toasts and more. Leave no breakfast stone unturned. The friendly staff, the relaxed clientele and the simple light wood decor create a really good atmosphere, which isn't spoiled by high prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tapas in the library |
Kreittmayrstraße 26 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80335 Germany +49 89 5235 0535 |
Billiards with Brecht? Pasta with Pasternak? How about both! This is one of the most imaginative of Munich's bars. For twenty years local people have been eating and drinking here, in the company of high and low brow literature. The walls are lined with thousands of assorted books. The annexe is very popular, having a very busy pool table. The bar is kept by a colourful trio: a social educationalist, a furrier and a faith healer and you can quickly sense that they really enjoy running their bar. This is a place to spend a congenial evening with friends. The menu features typical 'Osteria' fare with pasta and tapas. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The big breakfast |
Ursulastraße 10 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3408 9965 http://www.bobolovsky.de/ |
Bobolovsky's is a café, a bar and a restaurant. This place serves the cheapest and best breakfast in Schwabing. This could comprise a huge portion of ham and eggs, followed by waffles, cornflakes, toast and jam, and a hot drink. If you're still peckish after that, you'd better start worrying! Bobolovsky's also serves a wide range of hot, mainly American and Mexican style cuisine, which is, as the breakfasts are, fabulous. The all-you-can-eat American buffet special on Monday evenings (after 8p) is a killer! Review © 2007, Wcities |

From early to late |
Implerstraße 2 Sendling Munich, Bayern 81371 Germany +49 89 7466 4693 |
This café does resemble an aquarium with its huge windows, sixties style decor, long bar, high terrace and the music playing just a little too loud. During the day, it is full of school kids and businessmen and in the evening the younger party crowd start pouring in. There is also an excellent menu offering Asian, Italian and International cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

We agree! |
Nordendstraße 62 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80799 Germany |
D'accord? Do you agree? Sit down for a rest and a coffee break in this shady terrace away from the bustle of the city streets. Whether Thai delicacy or steak - the portions are always generous, the beverages are also noticeably cheaper than elsewhere - a Grüner Veltliner costs very reasonably. A coffee house with a kick! Great view of the carillon |
Marienplatz 28 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany +49 89 26 4256 http://www.cafe-glockenspiel.de |
Previously a café for OAPs, Glockenspiel is now frequented by the young and trendy. Its tasteful interior is not the main reason for this surge in popularity though the rooftop terrace is what makes it special, with a view over Marienplatz from the fifth floor. Providing you can secure a seat, this is the best position to enjoy the Town Hall tower's carillon performance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Overlooking the English Garden |
Königinstraße 51 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80539 Germany |
You will find Café Monopteros right at the entrance to the Englischer Garten (the English Garden) and it is therefore perfect for fortifying yourself after a good walk with a nice cup of coffee and a cake from the wide selection. Early birds will be attracted by the excellent breakfast menu, while there are also several lunchtime specials which provide good value for money. In short, you will find everything you could wish for, whether you want a snack or a hearty meal. The clientele varies from students to groups of yuppies who descend, mainly at lunchtime, from the many offices in the area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Show jumping and coffee |
Königinstraße 34 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 333402 |
Situated next to the university riding school, this café has the particular advantage of offering a view of the riders practising their show-jumping techniques in the riding hall. Once popular with Munich's high society, the clientele now consists of business people, yuppies and law students coming and going in a continuous stream. Good food, wonderful terraces with a view of the English Gardens, separate rooms for larger parties and, of course, excellent service. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something for everyone |
Ganghoferstraße 50 Westend Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 89 50 8341 http://www.cafe-westend.com/ |
International cuisine is the order of the day at Westend. From Greek or Mexican to traditional German dishes, this café has something for everyone. The decor is dark, late 19th century or, put more positively, cosy and pleasant. Your visit is made all the more enjoyable by the friendly, lively staff and the ample helpings. On Mondays, there is a Mexican 'all you can eat' special, where you can eat your fill. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Crêpes and French delicacies |
Innere Wiener Straße 32 Haidhausen Munich, Bayern 81667 Germany +49 89 480 1173 |
This traditional shop has been offering crêpes and galettes for over 20 years. With around 45 different types of crêpes, there is something for everyone. The best place to enjoy your crêpes is, of course, in the classic French atmosphere, but if there is no room left in the tiny bistro, then you can always take them home with you. Live jazz bands play here occasionally. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Local favorite |
Hans-Sachs-Strasse 17 Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 (0)89 26 3798 |
This cozy cafe on Hans-Sachs-Strasse is quite a neighborhood favorite. Make your way here for breakfast or dinner and you'll have a range of options to choose from. You could choose to sit indoors or head outside to bask in the sun while enjoying tasty treats that they serve up. All in all Faun is a casual eatery to sit back and relax minus the airs. See and be seen |
Gärtnerplatz 1 Glockenbachviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 202 1649 http://www.cafe-interview.de |
The name of this bar says it all. Located opposite the Gärtnerplatztheater, Interview's terrace is a popular summertime meeting place for Munich's in-crowd. The staff are suitably self-confident, the prices high and the cuisine excellent (Italian, of course). The extensive breakfast menu is especially good while the wine and cocktail list is not for the faint-hearted. Meals from the lunch menu are served from 10a-5p. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Arias and a rococo interior |
Odeonsplatz 18 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80539 Germany +49 89 29 8322 |
Located on Odeonsplatz, this café offers a wonderful view of the Theatinerkirche and Feldherrenhalle from its sun terrace. At the back, you can enjoy a beer in the courtyard garden. Prices are average and the food is excellent. There is a wide selection of coffees. In the evenings, operatic arias accompanied by piano are performed by students of the Music Academy. This is very much in keeping with the rococo-style interior. One point to bear in mind is that Tambosi can fill up very quickly after performances at the nearby theatres. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Relaxation for stressed-out students |
Amalienstraße 87 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80799 Germany +49 89 439 7480 |
An ideal place for overworked, stressed-out students. The upstairs bar (and the courtyard during the summer) is the perfect place to let off steam, while the cellar bar (the Liquid Lounge) is great for celebrating successful exam results - the room can be hired for free. The food is tasty and cheap. Burgers cost about EUR 7; main courses range from EUR 5.30-8 and pasta dishes can be had for just EUR 4 from 6p-8p M-F. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Live classical music |
Goethestraße 51 Ludwigsvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80336 Germany +49 89 5440 4348 http://www.hotelmariandl.de |
This traditional café dating back to 1899 boasts high ceilings decorated with ornate stucco, parquet floors and gorgeous wooden panelling. It is a real, old-style coffee house and features classical music played on the piano or by small ensembles during the evening. The programme sometimes extends to jazz. The choice of drinks reflects the Viennese influence and the food, particularly the set menu, is tasty and varied. The clientele largely consists of students (predominantly medical students) and other trendy young people. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Best bagels in town |
Leopoldstraße 43 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3888 9808 |
A small but cosy bagel café on Leopoldstraße, this place offers around a dozen varieties of bagels, with the menu offering various fillings. Different sorts of coffees are offered here every month. The staff can converse with you in English, as most of the staff come from the US. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Newspapers and marketing students |
Amalienstraße 55 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 28 1787 |
Another of the numerous cafés in Munich's university district, News Bar is bright and comfortable, and offers the usual choice of meals, coffee and cakes. One slightly unusual feature is the enormous selection of newspapers and magazines. It's a pity that you have to buy them, but at least this place is quiet enough to read in peace. The staff are very new-Munich and slightly arrogant, just right for the high-powered student clientele who can take the opportunity to practice the assertiveness they will need later in life. Café in the Prinzregententheater |
Prinzregentenplatz 12 Bogenhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 455 0650 |
Located in the same building as the Prinzregententheater and sharing its delightful features - large rooms, high ceilings, dark wall panels - this beautiful café also benefits from an extremely varied clientele. By day, it is frequented by business people and lawyers from local offices and chambers, while in the evening it attracts a mixed crowd of theatre-goers. Prices of the food reflect the high standing of the owner, Zampano Käfer, and its quality is sound. In comparison, breakfast is good value for money and is popular among students. Coffee and take-aways |
Nymphenburger Straße 151 Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany http://www.sfcc.de/ |
Fans of the USA no longer have to cross the Atlantic to enjoy a typical American coffee shop. The San Francisco Coffee Company spreads its aromas from a corner building on Nymphenburger Straße, where it sells coffee, sandwiches and muffins. The emphasis is on the coffee, though, and its direct links with coffee manufacturers guarantees its varied but high quality range. That is why the SFCC likes to be known as the 'Coffee Place'. SFCC also has style, combining mahogany shades with light blue and orange. The staff provide friendly service American-style. Other branches: Liebigstrabe 10a (Lehel), Innere Wiener Strabe 57 (Haidhausen), Amalienstrabe 45 (Schwabing), Gartnerplatz 2 (Zentrum), Arabellastrabe 17-19 (Arabella-Park). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Exquisite ice-cream |
Nymphenburger Straße 155 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany +49 89 15 5314 http://www.sarcletti.de |
Crowds flocking to Sarclettis, one of the oldest and most popular ice-cream parlours in town, have been known to cause traffic chaos. No wonder! With 60 exquisite varieties like caramel, mint chocolate and sacher cake (as well as special versions for diabetics), this place is well worth a visit at any time of year. Customers can enjoy a tub of ice-cream or a sundae. The polystyrene cool boxes provided for take-aways can keep the ice-cream frozen for several hours. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hans-Sachs-Straße 5 Glockenbachviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 26 8835 |
Once you've finally found it, you'll immediately feel at home in this bright and comfortable café. The menu offers a wide selection of dishes, with an emphasis on pasta and Mexican cuisine, at reasonable prices. The bartender is very friendly and his shots are generous. The clientele is a colourful mix of gay men and lesbian women (or was it gay women and lesbian men?). There is a bowling alley in the cellar and a small beer garden at the front. Early opener |
Prälat-Zistl-Straße 8 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany +49 89 26 8237 |
Situated on Viktualienmarkt and open from 5am, this café is renowned for its breakfast. The most popular dish is the Auszog'nen, a Bavarian speciality which consists of balls of yeast dough, fried in lard and pulled apart in the middle so that a thick ring of dough forms around the outside. The whole thing is then sprinkled with sugar. For those who are really famished, several other nourishing hot dishes are available. If you're planning to celebrate with a large group, then it is recommended to arrive early as the café and the upper floor fill up pretty quickly. Review © 2007, Wcities |
