An institution in town |
Pfisterstraße 9 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany +49 89 22 1210 |
This old Munich institution had to move from its old home to new lodgings just in front of the Hofbräuhaus. However, the Boettner has remained true to itself and to its clientele. The old furniture was transferred and even the menu has hardly changed: traditional dishes are prepared in classical style by Frank Hartung and Wilhelm Eichinger. There is a great wine list and a lovely garden. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Subtle French influence |
Ismaninger Straße 85 Bogenhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 98 5586 http://www.bogenhauser-hof.de/ |
Bogenhausen offers substantial, high quality fare in pleasant surroundings. You will detect a subtle French influence in the fish, poultry and game dishes, all of which are meticulously prepared. The emphasis is on traditional cuisine. Main courses start with the turbot fish being highly recommended. Only the service leaves something to be desired, but most of the patrons, who consist of business people, Munich dignitaries and the generally affluent, do not appear unduly troubled by it. An Austrian in Munich |
Schulstraße 9 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany +49 89 16 4238 |
The choice here is extremely limited - just one five-course menu a day - but don't be alarmed; the menu is exceedingly well thought out and exquisitely prepared. The cuisine is solid and hearty rather than fine. Classic southern German and Austrian ingredients are often combined in a novel fashion: beetroot, cooked meat, carp and offal. There is also an enormous variety of Austrian wines. There is a special fish menu once a month. Meals are served until 10p. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something for everyone |
Ganghoferstraße 50 Westend Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 89 50 8341 http://www.cafe-westend.com/ |
International cuisine is the order of the day at Westend. From Greek or Mexican to traditional German dishes, this café has something for everyone. The decor is dark, late 19th century or, put more positively, cosy and pleasant. Your visit is made all the more enjoyable by the friendly, lively staff and the ample helpings. On Mondays, there is a Mexican 'all you can eat' special, where you can eat your fill. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Actors' canteen |
Hildegardstraße 4 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80539 Germany +49 89 29 9825 |
Located just behind the Kammerspiele theatre, this place has become popular with actors and theatre workers who make themselves at home here after performances. The interior has aged over the years, but this is part of its charm. The Bavarian home cooking is simple but decent, with sandwiches and soups served in the evenings. The atmosphere is very peaceful - no music is played! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gourmet favourite |
Am Einlaß 2 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 26 6228 |
Gourmets will find all their palate desires at Inge Stollberg's little restaurant. The cuisine is multinational, yet there's a definite Mediterranean influence, and guests can choose between classic and more adventurous dishes. It has long since been a favourite haunt for actors, footballers and other minor VIPs, but this comfortable and intimate restaurant is equally popular with the general public. Park and beer garden |
Hirschgarten 1 Nymphenburg Munich, Bayern 80993 Germany +49 89 17 2591 http://www.hirschgarten.de/ |
Hirschgarten was originally a game enclosure built by the Elector Karl Theodor at the end of the eighteenth century. A small part of the historic enclosure has been preserved and can be seen from the beer garden. With 8,000 seats, the beer garden is the biggest in the city, and is also one of the most pleasant because of its peaceful location and numerous chestnut trees. It is not one of the most traditional though- beer has never been brewed or stored here, and it was only converted from a hunting house to a restaurant in 1970, when the garden was also built. This is, as is usual, a self-service beer garden, and you'll have to wash your beer glass yourself before getting a refill! Review © 2007, Wcities |

A table with a view |
Karlsplatz 25 Munich, Bayern 80335 Germany +49 89 551360 http://www.koenigshof-muenchen.de |
The location alone is overwhelming, attached to Hotel Königshof, the restaurant overlooks lively Karlsplatz (Stachus) and the city centre. The decor is elegant and refined, and the first-rate international cuisine well and truly lives up to expectations. As you would expect from a top class restaurant, the wine list is comprehensive and guests make their selection from an impressively stocked wine cellar. The service is impeccable, both attentive and discreet. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Blasphemous food |
Fürstenstraße 9 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 2880 8809 |
Extremely comfortable and rustically decorated, this pub mocks Bavarian religious devotion with its ironic pictures of Jesus on the walls - and this in one of the world's oldest cultural cities! If the only the Bavarian prime minister knew about this! Last Supper offers a selection of international dishes - which hopefully won't be your last - including good steaks and a fine fish stew, as well as a great wine list. The atmosphere is informal and lively. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good food, pleasant beer garden |
Volkartstraße 32 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany +49 89 16 1373 |
Löwengarten offers ambitious and imaginative food at reasonable prices, such as ravioli filled with perch for. Typical dishes such as wiener schnitzel and roast pork also feature on the menu. With good service, a wooden interior decorated in warm and pleasant colors and a small beer garden, this establishment is very popular in the neighborhood. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Austrian cuisine in a flower garden |
Nymphenburger Straße 24 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80335 Germany +49 89 123 3830 |
The cuisine is cosmopolitan, yet still displays a definite Alpine emphasis both the wine and the food reflect clear Austrian tendencies. This is a pleasant, rather small restaurant, slightly conservative, yet exceptionally beautiful in the summer when guests can sit outside in the charming flower garden. A pianist performs several times a week. Prices are not cheap, but respectable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Viewing point and rotating restaurant |
Spiridon-Louis-Ring 7 Oympiapark Munich, Bayern 80809 Germany +49 89 3066 8585 |
At 287m the Olympic tower is the tallest building in Munich, just 10m shorter than the Eiffel tower. Built by the civic council in 1965-68 for the 1972 Olympics, it provides the best view of the city and surrounding area and in good weather it is possible to see as far as the Alps. It costs (EUR2) to go to the top, though it's just (EUR 1.25) for under-15s and free for kids under six. The Olympiaturm restaurant beneath the viewing platform is open from 11a-5p and 6:30p-midnight. As well as providing a stunning view, this rotating restaurant also serves very good dishes from around the world at reasonable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |
