There's a real coffee house feel to this wonderful high-ceilinged stucco room dating back to the end of the 19th century. Popular with students and locals, it is a lively night time meeting place for young people out for a few beers. Café Neuhausen is particularly renowned for its filling, value for money breakfasts, but the ambitious selection of hot meals and salads is also worth a look. The small beer garden at the rear is worth checking out in the summer.

http://www.cafepuck.de Situated close to the university, Café Puck is a popular hang-out for students during the day, mainly because of its tasty salads, sandwiches and hot meals, but also to its policy of serving breakfast until 6pm. In the evening and later on, a new group of punters - tidy and well-dressed thanks to the bouncers - come to chat, drink and flirt. After midnight the place really starts to kick. Not quite as whimsical as Shakespeare's Puck - more straightforward fun!

+49 89 333402 Situated next to the university riding school, this café has the particular advantage of offering a view of the riders practising their show-jumping techniques in the riding hall. Once popular with Munich's high society, the clientele now consists of business people, yuppies and law students coming and going in a continuous stream. Good food, wonderful terraces with a view of the English Gardens, separate rooms for larger parties and, of course, excellent service.
