Great food, great jazz |
Frundsbergstrasse 46 Ecke Ruffinistraße Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany +49 (0)89 1589 0253 http://www.thebigeasy.de/ |
If you're looking for quality jazz performers, the Big Easy is the place to visit. A big place for tourists, the laidback ambience is a draw, where patrons order drinks and sit back to jazzy beats. Another plus is that it's child friendly, with a kids' area complete with toys. The Happy Hour from 5p-8p sees a wide range of spirits and beer being guzzled. Buffet, brunch, regular jazz events, non-smoking area, and contemporary cuisine are other attractions. Service takes long on crowded days, but after the dining experience you'll have little to complain about. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trendy establishment for theatre-goers |
Marienstraße 4 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany |
An in-restaurant with French-style cuisine located near the Kammerspiele theater and the Opera House, this friendly place has developed into a really 'good address'. Even though the choice of dishes could hardly be described as unique, the quality cannot be denied. Italian-style pasta dishes complement classic French bistro fare like coq au vin or vegetable pie. Main courses can be had for upwards of EUR 12.50 and a special 'theater menu' is available for EUR 10. A wide range of cocktails is also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

From early to late |
Implerstraße 2 Sendling Munich, Bayern 81371 Germany +49 89 7466 4693 |
This café does resemble an aquarium with its huge windows, sixties style decor, long bar, high terrace and the music playing just a little too loud. During the day, it is full of school kids and businessmen and in the evening the younger party crowd start pouring in. There is also an excellent menu offering Asian, Italian and International cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great view of the carillon |
Marienplatz 28 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80331 Germany +49 89 26 4256 http://www.cafe-glockenspiel.de |
Previously a café for OAPs, Glockenspiel is now frequented by the young and trendy. Its tasteful interior is not the main reason for this surge in popularity though the rooftop terrace is what makes it special, with a view over Marienplatz from the fifth floor. Providing you can secure a seat, this is the best position to enjoy the Town Hall tower's carillon performance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Student café and singles bar |
Türkenstraße 33 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80799 Germany +49 89 280 2280 http://www.cafepuck.de |
Situated close to the university, Café Puck is a popular hang-out for students during the day, mainly because of its tasty salads, sandwiches and hot meals, but also to its policy of serving breakfast until 6pm. In the evening and later on, a new group of punters - tidy and well-dressed thanks to the bouncers - come to chat, drink and flirt. After midnight the place really starts to kick. Not quite as whimsical as Shakespeare's Puck - more straightforward fun! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upbeat restaurant |
Christophstrasse 3 Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 (0)89 2554 1966 http://www.go-cocoon.de/ |
Dine in style at this elegant eatery specializing in seafood. The decor consists of overhead lighting, subtle tones and plenty of steel and woodwork. A la carte and set lunches please the palate, though not the wallet. Wines from Nahe, Baden and Pfalz rub shoulders with the Italian and French varietals. There's lounge music playing in the background as well, while television screens and a fish tank provide visual entertainment. For a hushed evening with your loved one, feel cocooned right here. Multicultural cuisine |
Friedenheimer Straße 59 Laim Munich, Bayern 80686 Germany +49 89 5477 9900 |
Much thought has gone into the design of this restaurant (modern and simple, yet excellent) to ensure it runs with the minimum of fuss. The same high quality is to be found in the food, the style of which is difficult to summarize in one word, as it takes in the best aspects from many different world cuisines. The set menus are highly recommended, each one providing a real culinary tour of the globe. Service is top class, being friendly and competent; meals can also be eaten outside in summertime. Table for two |
Corneliusstrasse 2 Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 (0)89 26 8818 http://www.forumcafe.de/ |
This cafe/bar/restaurant is a great place to hang around with friends over finger food and drinks. Though the lunch menu changes each day, people come here to savor the ambience as Forum makes for a romantic spot as well. Fresh flowers, prompt service and a selection of desserts and coffees add to the experience. Other features includes non-smoking section and wireless internet access. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Corner shop restaurant |
St. Anna-Platz 1 Lehel Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 89 2916 2525 http://www.gandl.de/ |
This former corner shop in the heart of well-to-do Lehel will surprise you with its concept: some great creative cuisine combined with a shop selling food from all over the world. The idea has certainly proven itself and people (including many business people) come flocking here. The cooking is slightly Mediterranean with an Asian touch. The prices are even cheaper at lunch - and the house wine is excellent. A small, cosy establishment. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fusion food |
Maximiliansplatz 5 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 5502 9741 |
Werner Hunsinger has found a prominent location for his restaurant - in the 'Aubergine' - where Eckart Witzigmann 'reinvented' modern German cuisine. This tradition has been continued, and Hunsinger Pacific serves up daring combinations known as fusion cuisine. The results are spectacular. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Scottish drinks, English atmosphere and French cuisine |
Thierschstraße 14 Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 89 2916 3700 |
This exclusive bar and restaurant is situated in the upmarket district of Lehel. The wooden tables, leather seats, dark wooden bar and pleasant lighting combine to create a cozy, club-like atmosphere. There is a huge selection of malt whisky (the bar staff can help you choose) and the restaurant offers high-quality French and international crossover cuisine. The service is excellent; the clientele well-heeled and sociable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Flirt with the rich and famous |
Utzschneiderstraße 1 Innenstadt Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 260 3584 http://www.kays-bistro.de |
The film and art scene in Munich would be all the poorer without Kai Wörsching's fantastic restaurant, a place which brings the famous and the wannabee-famous together. The guests are not the only interesting sight in this restaurant and bistro, however. The decor is equally impressive and is changed every few weeks to reflect a certain theme; the cooking is adapted accordingly. With all this glitz and glamour, it's also a good place to come just for a drink and possibly get to know the man or woman of your dreams. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trendy and stylish |
Fraunhoferstraße 13 Glockenbachviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 260 8518 http://www.kleinschmidtz.de/ |
This up-and-coming restaurant attracts some of the trendiest people in the city, so customers may have to wait a while for a table and kill time in the foyer with a complementary prosecco. Once shown to a seat though, you will revel in the stylish and relaxing atmosphere. The meals are fairly light, with French and Italian influences. The wine list meets the highest expectations, as does the service, which is friendly and efficient. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deli restaurant |
Prinzregentenstraße 73 Bogenhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 4168247 |
The flagship of the Käfer food concern is its delicatessen-cum-restaurant in Bogenhausen. Run by star chef Fritz Schilling (with the help of another renowned chef, Eckart Witzigmann, who is a consultant here), the restaurant uses the best ingredients and offers the finest wines, which should be no problem, as this is also one of Munich's best delicatessens. Blasphemous food |
Fürstenstraße 9 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 2880 8809 |
Extremely comfortable and rustically decorated, this pub mocks Bavarian religious devotion with its ironic pictures of Jesus on the walls - and this in one of the world's oldest cultural cities! If the only the Bavarian prime minister knew about this! Last Supper offers a selection of international dishes - which hopefully won't be your last - including good steaks and a fine fish stew, as well as a great wine list. The atmosphere is informal and lively. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good food, pleasant beer garden |
Volkartstraße 32 Neuhausen Munich, Bayern 80634 Germany +49 89 16 1373 |
Löwengarten offers ambitious and imaginative food at reasonable prices, such as ravioli filled with perch for. Typical dishes such as wiener schnitzel and roast pork also feature on the menu. With good service, a wooden interior decorated in warm and pleasant colors and a small beer garden, this establishment is very popular in the neighborhood. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Top international cuisine |
Rablstraße 10 Haidhausen Munich, Bayern 81669 Germany +49 89 448 4477 |
In spite of the Italian name, this place is well known for its top international cuisine. Chefs Joe Gasser and Gesumino Pireddu know a thing or two about satisfying their clients - not withstanding the somewhat cool ambience. The meat dishes EUR 16-32 are outstanding. Being a professional butcher, Gasser certainly knows his ingredients well! The desserts are also exceptional. The lunchtime set menu costs EUR 20; the evening menu EUR 45. Food is served until 11p. Good food in the Kunstpark Ost |
Grafingerstraße 6 Kunstpark Ost Munich, Bayern 81671 Germany +49 89 4900 2153 http://www.nachtkantine.de |
Apart from the odd snack bar, this is the only restaurant in Kunstpark Ost. It offers mainly American food, such as burgers from EUR7.25 as well as pizza and pasta from EUR4.25-6.25 - good value for Munich. The turnover of guests is high as people come and go all the time. The hectic pace is heightened by the loud techno music played by various DJs - and all this in a room for 800 people! If you're just finishing the night, then you can begin the next day here - a full breakfast is available for EUR7. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fondue for the revellers |
Buttermelcherstraße 6 Gärtnerplatzviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 260 7741 |
Always packed, Ododo is popular not just because of the wide selection of fondues and the enormous sandwiches. The simple interior (steel with artificial leather seating) provides just the right setting for the in-crowd. This is where the 'jeunesse dorée' meets up for refreshments during their long journey through the city at night, or where backsliders come for a chocolate fondue. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Viewing point and rotating restaurant |
Spiridon-Louis-Ring 7 Oympiapark Munich, Bayern 80809 Germany +49 89 3066 8585 |
At 287m the Olympic tower is the tallest building in Munich, just 10m shorter than the Eiffel tower. Built by the civic council in 1965-68 for the 1972 Olympics, it provides the best view of the city and surrounding area and in good weather it is possible to see as far as the Alps. It costs (EUR2) to go to the top, though it's just (EUR 1.25) for under-15s and free for kids under six. The Olympiaturm restaurant beneath the viewing platform is open from 11a-5p and 6:30p-midnight. As well as providing a stunning view, this rotating restaurant also serves very good dishes from around the world at reasonable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fine variety of drinks |
Baaderstraße 28 Gärtnerplatzviertel Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 2023 9470 |
A popular meeting place for students and the upwardly mobile. With its parquet floor, basket chairs and fans, the interior is like something from colonial times, sparse and elegant rather than cool. They do a great range of salads, Asian and South American snacks and dishes like steak and vegetable curry. Pacific Times also has one of the largest selections of drinks in Munich - try their great tasting cocktails or maybe a whisky. Car parking service: EUR 4.50 Review © 2007, Wcities |

Rustic Italian |
Maria-Theresia-Straße 2a Haidhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 470 1010 http://www.hotel-ritzi.de |
An elegant and sophisticated place with a long bar and numerous works of art. The food is international with a definite Mediterranean influence; the fish dishes and desserts are particularly good. The trendy, nouveau riche clientele that patronise the restaurant includes numerous TV celebrities (Bogenhausen is just around the corner). The staff can sometimes appear a little too self-important for their own good however. Hot food is available from 6:30a-3p and from 6p-midnight. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A beer and a view |
Kleinhesselohe 2 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 381 6130 |
Situated on the banks of Kleinhesseloher lake in the middle of the English Garden, this restaurant with adjoining beer garden is a favourite with self-assured locals, students and tourists all year round. Guests can relax with a Mass (litre) of beer for EUR5 and watch the sun slowly disappear behind the lake. If you get peckish, you can order from the restaurant menu, although this does tend to be quite pricey. Students will be pleased to know that you can bring your own food to the beer garden. Football fans may even get lucky and see the stars of Bayern Munich football club celebrating their latest victory here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good food and student atmosphere |
Tulbeckstraße 9 Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 (0)89 50 5400 |
Speisecafé West is known for its great breakfast and sunny terrace. The main courses and set menus are also exceptional: a wonderful combination of international and regional cuisine, varied, imaginative, progressive and skilfully prepared. The decor and atmosphere are cosy; the clientele is made up of locals and students who sit at the bar or at the table on fine leather-covered benches. The mood is casual and intimate. Lounge Café |
80 Augustenstrasse Munich 80333 Germany +49 8945229522 |
It is more a caf than a restaurant, and more of a living room than a caf . The creativity of the management is tangible not only in the dcor and the fresh flower arrangement, but also the daily specials which are a surprising mix of Eastern and Western cuisines. The staff is multilingual and friendly. A cozy place to meet the girls for lunch and talk endlessly over a nice selection of coffees or teas, and it is equally great for a wholesome meal with a refreshing wine. It is small and almost always full, but it's worth the wait! - Tulika Richter Review © 2007, Wcities |

Luxury as a philosophy |
Johann-Fichte-Straße 7 Munich, Bayern 80805 Germany +49 89 361 9590 http://www.tantris.de |
One of the most highly renowned restaurants in town, Tantris offers fantastic contemporary international cuisine rustled up by master chef Hans Haas. It also features an excellent wine list prepared by sommelière Paula Bosch. The main room, decorated in red and black, seems to tackle life's problems head on: love and death are celebrated in a culinary form and the 'philosophy' of the house is that food is the basis for happiness. There is also a terrace and garden room, which are available for functions on Sundays and Mondays. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tasty food and chilled sounds |
Maxburgstraße 4 Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 2916 3938 |
This quality city-centre establishment has a relaxed and flirtatious atmosphere as well as a beautiful terrace with fountain. The menu is excellent and reasonably priced - pasta, pizza and main courses cost EUR7-15. The lunch menu will set you back just EUR8 and the evening fare is extremely creative. Friday and Saturday nights are legendary and feature some of the best drum & bass DJs in town (from 8p). Breakfasts are scrumptious (EUR3-29) and are served until 5p over the weekend.
