Dinner and belly dancing |
Kaulbachstraße 82 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 33 3738 http://www.arabesk.de/ |
A good place for an introduction to Lebanese food. Whether made of meat or vegetables, all the dishes are prepared using the finest oriental spices such as cinnamon and cloves. People on their first visit can rely on the friendly waiters to help them make their choice. Arabesk is especially popular at weekends, when a belly dancer adds a visual element to the pleasures of the evening. There is frequent live music and a 1001 Nights party once a month. Where Africans go to eat |
Siegesstraße 22a Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 34 2389 |
This simple restaurant without romantic frills is an excellent introduction to oriental and Ethiopian cuisine. The dishes are prepared according to traditional recipes without concessions to the European palate. It will take a moment to adjust before you get into the swing and you will have to learn to eat with your fingers! The pleasant staff will help you out if you are struggling. After a couple of glasses of honey wine, all your inhibitions will disappear anyway. The fact that many Africans eat here speaks volumes about the quality of the food. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The big breakfast |
Ursulastraße 10 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3408 9965 http://www.bobolovsky.de/ |
Bobolovsky's is a café, a bar and a restaurant. This place serves the cheapest and best breakfast in Schwabing. This could comprise a huge portion of ham and eggs, followed by waffles, cornflakes, toast and jam, and a hot drink. If you're still peckish after that, you'd better start worrying! Bobolovsky's also serves a wide range of hot, mainly American and Mexican style cuisine, which is, as the breakfasts are, fabulous. The all-you-can-eat American buffet special on Monday evenings (after 8p) is a killer! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Subtle French influence |
Ismaninger Straße 85 Bogenhausen Munich, Bayern 81675 Germany +49 89 98 5586 http://www.bogenhauser-hof.de/ bogenhauser-hof@t-online.de |
Bogenhausen offers substantial, high quality fare in pleasant surroundings. You will detect a subtle French influence in the fish, poultry and game dishes, all of which are meticulously prepared. The emphasis is on traditional cuisine. Main courses start with the turbot fish being highly recommended. Only the service leaves something to be desired, but most of the patrons, who consist of business people, Munich dignitaries and the generally affluent, do not appear unduly troubled by it. Show jumping and coffee |
Königinstraße 34 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 333402 |
Situated next to the university riding school, this café has the particular advantage of offering a view of the riders practising their show-jumping techniques in the riding hall. Once popular with Munich's high society, the clientele now consists of business people, yuppies and law students coming and going in a continuous stream. Good food, wonderful terraces with a view of the English Gardens, separate rooms for larger parties and, of course, excellent service. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Spanish in the English Garden |
Biedersteiner Straße 6 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 34 2318 |
Located in a lovely vaulted cellar near the English Garden, this is one of Munich's oldest (1965) Spanish restaurants. Don Quijote concentrates on traditional Spanish cooking without attempting to create anything fashionable. Hearty meals like chilli Jalapeño, chilli peppers filled with chicken EUR 8 or shrimps in an almond and cognac sauce should fill you up. The fish dishes are also highly recommended. The service is exceptionally friendly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Everything under one roof |
Feilitzschstraße 12 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany drugstoresaffari@aol.com |
Drugstore is an understatement for this shop that has everything: a restaurant, bar, bistro and news agency. You can get a hearty breakfast from 9a-3p, have a coffee, eat lunch (business lunch 11a-3p) or just pop in for a drink in the evening. The happy hour is a must (6p-7p & 11p-midnight Sunday-Thursday) with cocktails. However, the really unusual thing about the Drugstore is the news agency, where you can buy useful things (wine) and useless things (horoscopes) until 1a. Hot food is also served until midnight. Garlic and more |
Feilitzschstraße 32 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 331 1116 |
Good, traditional Spanish fare, which stands out above all because of its potent seasoning. The cuisine is exceptionally good, especially the tapas. The only downside is the service- the waiters and waitresses are all rather brusque and spoil the pleasant ambiance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tapas and soul |
Leopoldstraße 49 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 34 4949 http://www.lardy.de |
Once you've got past the bouncer and head into this stylish establishment, the sound of the music will hit you instantly. A variety of food including tapas, pasta and other Spanish dishes is available, not all of which goes that well with the wide range of cocktails on offer. It is pleasant outside in summertime and the crowd often spills onto the pavement as a result. Its chic, well-off clientele make for an exciting atmosphere with a good deal of flirting in the evenings. Warm food is served until midnight; prices are above average. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beer and a kebab anyone? |
Feilitzschstraße 7 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 39 2642 http://www.mamas-kebaphaus.de/ info@mamas-kebaphaus.de |
Mama's Kebaphaus is almost an institution in Altschwabing. This snack bar (with seating) is in the centre of the bar district and is a magnet for everyone who has been out for a couple of beers and needs something to fill the gap on the way home. However, this eatery is not just for night owls and you can choose between the daily special, and a delicious range of Turkish dishes. Nevertheless, it has to be said that the speciality of the house is the doner kebab. There is also a good choice of drinks ranging from long drinks, aperitifs, Sekt (German equivalent of champagne), liqueurs, wine, spirits and - let's not forget the staple refreshment in Munich - beer! Best bagels in town |
Leopoldstraße 43 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3888 9808 |
A small but cosy bagel café on Leopoldstraße, this place offers around a dozen varieties of bagels, with the menu offering various fillings. Different sorts of coffees are offered here every month. The staff can converse with you in English, as most of the staff come from the US. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mexicans in exile |
Widenmayerstraße 52 Lehel Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 89 22 1274 |
The Palenque has been serving up Mexican cuisine for over 32 years, and is thus much better established than most similar restaurants in Munich. People are divided about the quality of the food: some think it is traditional Mexican fare, others think it is just mush. What everyone likes, however, are the cocktails, perhaps the reason for the Palenque's abiding popularity. It can't be the service, which is mediocre at best. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Well worth the wait |
Feilitzschstraße 14 Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 (0)89 34 8470 http://www.peaches.de/d/peache... info@peaches.de |
Peaches Schwabing is part of the nationwide Peaches chain. There is a good mix of customers, but the crowd seems to be either young or old, with not much in between. It is always jam-packed and ordering can sometimes be difficult, but once you have finally managed to get your hands on a Long Island Ice-Tea things quickly get better! The cocktails are good and not too pricey by Munich standards. If you are feeling peckish, try one of the tasty pizzas, pastas or salads. Other Peaches are located in Laim (Elsenheimerstraße 12), Neuhausen (Donnersbergerstraße 50) and Milbertshofen (Schleißheimerstraße 330). Review © 2007, Wcities |

A beer and a view |
Kleinhesselohe 2 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 381 6130 |
Situated on the banks of Kleinhesseloher lake in the middle of the English Garden, this restaurant with adjoining beer garden is a favourite with self-assured locals, students and tourists all year round. Guests can relax with a Mass (litre) of beer for EUR5 and watch the sun slowly disappear behind the lake. If you get peckish, you can order from the restaurant menu, although this does tend to be quite pricey. Students will be pleased to know that you can bring your own food to the beer garden. Football fans may even get lucky and see the stars of Bayern Munich football club celebrating their latest victory here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Light and healthy |
Leopoldstraße 120 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 34 8104 |
The first thing you'll notice about this Korean restaurant is the number of Asians who dine here - a reflection of the quality and originality of the dishes on offer. The owner ensures the food is light and healthy, typical Korean food being low in both salt and fat, which acts as an added incentive to many diet-conscious guests. And with all the spices, it's got plenty of flavour! The restaurant is a particularly pleasant place to dine in summer, with seats available outside. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Luxury as a philosophy |
Johann-Fichte-Straße 7 Munich, Bayern 80805 Germany +49 89 361 9590 http://www.tantris.de info@tantris.de |
One of the most highly renowned restaurants in town, Tantris offers fantastic contemporary international cuisine rustled up by master chef Hans Haas. It also features an excellent wine list prepared by sommelière Paula Bosch. The main room, decorated in red and black, seems to tackle life's problems head on: love and death are celebrated in a culinary form and the 'philosophy' of the house is that food is the basis for happiness. There is also a terrace and garden room, which are available for functions on Sundays and Mondays. Review © 2007, Wcities |
