Spot the yuppie |
Sternstraße 21 Lehel Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 89 22 4491 |
One of the bars for advertising executives and other high flyers, this place is strategically well-situated close to P1. You can tell from the prices that it caters to the chic crowd: expect to pay (EUR 9) for a small plate of pasta and (EUR 3.75) for a beer. The cocktails are also expensive but they are good (and large). A party atmosphere prevails here, particularly at the weekend. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The big breakfast |
Ursulastraße 10 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3408 9965 http://www.bobolovsky.de/ |
Bobolovsky's is a café, a bar and a restaurant. This place serves the cheapest and best breakfast in Schwabing. This could comprise a huge portion of ham and eggs, followed by waffles, cornflakes, toast and jam, and a hot drink. If you're still peckish after that, you'd better start worrying! Bobolovsky's also serves a wide range of hot, mainly American and Mexican style cuisine, which is, as the breakfasts are, fabulous. The all-you-can-eat American buffet special on Monday evenings (after 8p) is a killer! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something for everyone |
Ganghoferstraße 50 Westend Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 89 50 8341 http://www.cafe-westend.com/ |
International cuisine is the order of the day at Westend. From Greek or Mexican to traditional German dishes, this café has something for everyone. The decor is dark, late 19th century or, put more positively, cosy and pleasant. Your visit is made all the more enjoyable by the friendly, lively staff and the ample helpings. On Mondays, there is a Mexican 'all you can eat' special, where you can eat your fill. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mexico in Munich |
Leopoldstrasse 44 Munich, Bayern 80802 Germany +49 89 3301 9330 http://www.donluca.de |
Don Luca has two locations in Munich, both full of Mexican kitsch and a certain cozy-meets-mass-produced flair. Come for the well-priced cocktails, which are even cheaper during happy hour. The "Top Five" specials are always 4.90€ and include hits like the Touchdown, Mai Tai and Caipi. The food is no culinary feat, especially for those of us used to authentic Mexican food, but the Giant Pizza Special on Monday for the bargain price of 9.90€ will feed at least three hungry people, and cocktail slurpers can't complain about the Cheese Smothered Nachos or Toasty Quesadillas. Happy hour daily from 5-8p, and Mo-Th 11p-closing. A second Don Luca is located at Morassistrasse 2. See website for more details. Olé! -Emily Flechtner Review © 2007, Wcities |

Party, party, party |
Gabelsbergerstraße 97 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 52 2297 http://www.enchilada.de |
A typical Tex-Mex bar, Enchilada has become particularly renowned for its hectic party atmosphere. The clientele is mixed but mostly young. People start the evening with a bang at happy hour (5p-8p) and then continue through to 11pm, when the 'margarita hour' starts. Rumour has it that the food isn't bad either, but you have to be a certain type to want to tuck into your fajitas for EUR 12.50 while teeny-boppers scream and dance. Your time is better spent flirting. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tasty Dinner For Two |
Nymphenburgerstr. 110 Munich 80636 Germany +49 89 42 095 2927 http://www.froschkoenig-bar.de |
Froschkönig, German for Frog prince, is a sleek restaurant with a casual sense of humor and numerous special deals. The most popular offer is the "cuddle dinner for two," offered on every second Wednesday of the month. The delicious and lovingly prepared three course romantic dinner is reasonably priced, and makes you feel like you're in a high class restaurant in the middle of Munich. The cuisine is inventive diverse, and international, with German, Italian, French and even Mexican touches. There is a "food" happy hour for different parts of the menu daily (don't miss the enchilada happy hour on Tuesday—5€ per enchilada!) Froschkönig is a special place and a nice retreat from the chaos and high prices of central Munich.–Emily Flechtner Review © 2007, Wcities |

Flirting Mexican style |
Buttermelcherstraße 17 Isarvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80469 Germany +49 89 22 6463 http://www.joepenas.de/ |
This Mexican bar is famous for three things - flirting, delicious cocktails and good food. In that order. The ambience is pleasant but nothing special, with dark wood furnishings, terracotta flooring and wall tiles. It is the music which creates the atmosphere, but it is far too loud for intimate pre-dinner chats. The food is good, but not extraordinary. It is best described as basic German-Mexican. Perhaps we had better move on to the cocktails. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tapas and Tex-Mex |
Grafinger Straße 6 Kunstpark Ost Munich, Bayern 81671 Germany +49 89 4991 8780 |
That the clientele tends to be on the young side goes without saying, as the Matador is part of the Kunstpark Ost fun factory. It could also be due to the fact that the older generation is frightened away by the incredibly loud music. In any case, this is not where you come for good food, but to drink and dance to music played by the in-house DJ. Prices are high, especially for drinks, but that doesn't seem to bother anyone. The waiters and waitresses do their utmost to keep the service going into the small hours, even if people are only interested in dancing by then. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mexicans in exile |
Widenmayerstraße 52 Lehel Munich, Bayern 80538 Germany +49 89 22 1274 |
The Palenque has been serving up Mexican cuisine for over 32 years, and is thus much better established than most similar restaurants in Munich. People are divided about the quality of the food: some think it is traditional Mexican fare, others think it is just mush. What everyone likes, however, are the cocktails, perhaps the reason for the Palenque's abiding popularity. It can't be the service, which is mediocre at best. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat and flirt |
Schraudolphstraße 44 Schwabing Munich, Bayern 80799 Germany +49 89 27 21346 http://www.pappasitos.de/ |
Eating and flirting are the two main reasons to come to Pappasito's. A sure recipe for success, because the restaurant is always jam-packed. The decor is typical of Mexican restaurants in Germany and is brimming with overdone Mexican charm. On the plus side, there are so many people here you can hardly see it. The menu consists of the usual Mexican dishes, served in large portions. You get the distinct impression, though, that most people haven't come for the food. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Papa Tex |
Schraudolphstraße 44 Ecke Georgenstraße Munich 80799 Germany +49 89 272 1346 http://www.pappasitos.de/ |
Home of Latina food and drink, Pappasitos is a wonderful place for some spicy Tex Mex. The lively bartenders will entertain you as they mix cocktails to the music. You can also host a party here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Better to celebrate than to eat |
Türkenstraße 50 Maxvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80333 Germany +49 89 28 1594 http://www.sausalitos.de |
Large, loud, dark, gay and well-frequented, Sausalitos is less suitable for a comfortable or intimate dinner than for large group celebrations and generally getting to know people. The food is good quality and not overpriced, but the cocktails are better and very good value. The clientele is young and consists mainly of students-the university is just around the corner. Not a place for refined gentlemen! Review © 2007, Wcities |
