Traditional pub for insiders |
Landsbergerstraße 19 Ludwigsvorstadt Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 89 50 7047 http://www.augustiner-restaura... |
The Bräustuben, situated right by the Augustiner Brewery, is as yet undiscovered by tourists and the atmosphere amongst the students and regulars who patronise the pub is much more typical than at other nearby establishments. The decor is simple and rustic, the local food cheap and good, the portions generous. And if you didn't know it before, you'll notice that Bavarians love their food and drink! A great place which is suitable for everyone who wants to get know the 'real' Bavaria. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something for everyone |
Ganghoferstraße 50 Westend Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 89 50 8341 http://www.cafe-westend.com/ |
International cuisine is the order of the day at Westend. From Greek or Mexican to traditional German dishes, this café has something for everyone. The decor is dark, late 19th century or, put more positively, cosy and pleasant. Your visit is made all the more enjoyable by the friendly, lively staff and the ample helpings. On Mondays, there is a Mexican 'all you can eat' special, where you can eat your fill. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gnocchi and more |
Kapuzinerstraße 25 Munich, Bayern 80337 Germany +49 (0)89 5994 3866 http://www.degustini.de/ info@degustini.de |
This non-smoking Mediterranean restaurant is charming like the hosts, Angelika and Fabio. A pretty interior with warm tones invites you in, or you can opt to eat on the patio (in summer). The menu offers tilapias, bruschettas, pastas, gnocchi, polenta, and more. The winelist features some rare aged labels, and a different wine with each course truly delights the guests. On the dessert front, Date Mousse, Chocolate Torte and Lemon Sorbet provide the perfect finales to your meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Veggie food for hardened carnivores |
Gollierstraße 83 Westend Munich, Bayern 80339 Germany +49 89 50 1673 |
If you need a break from fatty Bavarian food, this is the place to come, whether you are vegetarian or not. Gollier offers a wide range of reasonably-priced veggie dishes which will delight even the most hardened of carnivores: pizza, crepes and baked potatoes, all washed down with freshly squeezed juices. To top it all off, the service is quick and friendly and the ambience cosy. All dishes cost just EUR 4.25 before 8p, the set lunch (11:30a -2:30p) costs EUR 5.75. The customers are generally fairly young and there is a kids corner where parents can offload their offspring. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Opposite the festival ground |
Theresienhöhe 7 Schwanthaler Höhe Munich, Bayern 80336 Germany +49 89 50 1088 |
Situated directly opposite the Theresienwiese (venue for the Oktoberfest), this bar offers a less expensive (and better) alternative to the overpriced meals in the festival marquee. It's worth coming here at any time of year, and not just during the festival, for a taste of the fine Bavarian and Italian cuisine. The chestnut tree-filled beer garden seems like a green oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. Pizzas are available from EUR 4, and snacks such as garlic bread from EUR 2. The spare ribs at an unbeatable EUR 5.50 are highly recommended. The service is good and the beer even better. Review © 2007, Wcities |
